CBS has revealed that Tracker Season 3 will break new ground with its first-ever international storyline, sending Colter Shaw on a harrowing mission beyond U.S. borders. The storyline, set in a fictionalized version of a Central American country, will explore the disappearance of a teenage American backpacker believed to be caught in a criminal trafficking ring operating across multiple countries.
“Colter has never faced conditions like this before,” said executive producer Hilary Weisman Graham. “He can’t rely on his usual contacts, resources, or even laws. It’s going to test every part of him.”
A Dangerous Shift in Environment and Ethics
In the high-stakes episode, Shaw must navigate a landscape shaped by government corruption, foreign legal systems, and language barriers. With no immediate backup and limited digital access, he’s forced to rely on his instincts and form tenuous alliances with locals, including a human rights attorney and a reclusive ex-pat informant with ties to the missing girl.
The international arc explores powerful themes—including the limitations of American intervention, the complexities of cross-border justice, and the moral ambiguity of operating outside familiar systems. Shaw, who is used to working within a moral code shaped by American ideals, is pushed into grey territory where the rules simply don’t apply.
“We want to show how someone like Colter, with his rigid internal compass, reacts when the compass breaks,” Graham said. “This isn’t just about rescuing someone. It’s about figuring out who he is when the structures around him collapse.”
The episode is expected to include some of the series’ most visually striking cinematography to date, with on-location filming scheduled in the Dominican Republic to stand in for the fictional country. It will serve as a mid-season centerpiece, signaling a broader shift in Tracker toward global relevance and storytelling with international scope.
