Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey has potentially confirmed the show’s upcoming season will include a major relationship milestone that was missing from Benedict’s original story. Second son Benedict’s (Luke Thompson) world is about to be turned upside down, as he falls in love with a Cinderella-like mystery woman, Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), at his mother’s masquerade ball. As ever, though, Bridgerton season 4 will feature the various members of the Bridgerton family, including Bailey’s Viscount, Anthony Bridgerton, and his wife, Kate, the Viscountess (Simone Ashley).
What Jonathan Bailey’s Reveal Means For Bridgerton Season 4
Could We See Benedict And Sophie’s Wedding?
In An Offer From a Gentleman, Benedict and Sophie never tie the knot on the page. Instead, in chapter 23, during an emotional and intimate scene, Benedict tells Sophie, “In my heart, you are my wife,” and in response, Sophie tells him she loves him, too, and that she’s loved him from the moment she first danced with him. When they next appear in Colin and Penelope’s story (Netflix’s Bridgerton shuffled the order of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton books), Benedict and Sophie are already happily married.
Should Benedict and Sophie’s wedding be included in Bridgerton season 4, it may be part of the season’s brief epilogue, much like how Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope’s (Nicola Coughlan) baby was introduced on screen in the final minutes of season 3. Of course, it’s technically possible that the wedding scene has nothing to do with Benedict and Sophie; after all, Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and John Stirling (Victor Alli) were married in season 3, despite not being the season’s focus.
Perhaps the Dowager Viscountess’ (Ruth Gemmell) flirtation with Lady Danbury’s (Adjoa Andoh) brother will move along more quickly than anticipated. That feels unlikely, though, and besides, I’d much rather see Violet’s stories with Edmund Bridgerton (Rupert Evans) and Lord Anderson (Daniel Francis) play out in a second, dual-timeline, Queen Charlotte-esque miniseries. That may be wishful thinking on my part, however.
Our Take On Bridgerton Season 4’s Potential Wedding
What About Anthony And Kate’s Ceremony?
Seeing Benedict and Sophie’s wedding included in season 4 would be a real treat for viewers. Bridgerton’s weddings have been beautiful, emotional, and high-stakes, and a wedding is a real milestone in any couple’s relationship. And yet, if Benedict and Sophie were to be treated to an on-screen ceremony, the lack of any scenes involving Anthony’s wedding with Kate may feel even more egregious. It would mean that Anthony was the only Bridgerton sibling (thus far) not to have gotten married on the show.
Instead, Bridgerton season 2 depicted Anthony’s failed wedding to Kate’s sister, Edwina (Charithra Chandran), at length, planned and executed by the Queen (Golda Rosheuvel) herself. The season 2 epilogue gave us a glimpse of Anthony and Kate as a newlywed couple, which was lovely, yet it seems a shame that we never got to see what their wedding was like (nothing more than a daydream, at least). Imagine how beautiful it would have been if it had included traditions from an Indian marriage ceremony, too? In any case, we’ll have to wait until Bridgerton season 4 to see the mysterious wedding teased by Jonathan Bailey.
Are you ready for some tea straight from the ton? Because Jonathan Bailey, our beloved Anthony Bridgerton, may have just spilled something huge about the next season of Bridgerton. And let’s just say… it might not sit well with Benedict fans.
For readers of Julia Quinn’s books, Season 4 was expected to dive into Benedict’s love story based on An Offer from a Gentleman. But according to Bailey’s recent comments, Netflix could be changing that plan. Uh oh. What does this mean for the show’s future—and for the fans waiting for Benedict’s Cinderella moment?
Let’s unpack this, dear reader. Grab your tea (or your whiskey) because this update might just rock the Bridgerton world.
