Chicago Med: A Baby Doesn’t Mean Hannah & Archer Should Be a Couple

Hannah Asher might be having a baby with Dean Archer in Chicago Med season 11, but that doesn’t mean they have to start dating. The two characters have been friends for a long time in the medical drama. Hannah and Archer have been through a lot together and share undeniable chemistry, whether one views it as platonic or believes it has romantic undertones. Whatever the case, many Chicago Med fans would agree that Hannah and Archer have one of the best dynamics in the show, but that could easily change in season 11, depending on where the writers take their relationship.

At the end of the Chicago Med season 10 finale, Hannah appeared on Archer’s doorstep. The episode initially made it appear as if she was heading to Mitch Ripley’s house to tell him that she was pregnant. However, when the door opened, Archer was standing there. Hannah didn’t go to Ripley’s after all. Instead, she went to Archer’s home and told him, “We need to talk,” implying that Hannah is pregnant with Archer’s baby, not Ripley’s.

All Signs Point Towards Archer Being The Father Of Hannah’s Baby
The Chicago Med Season 10 Finale Implied That Archer Is The Father

Based on how the Chicago Med season 10 finale concluded (and how the series teased a hookup between Archer and Hannah a few episodes prior), it might be safe to say that Archer and Hannah will soon be raising a baby. It also helps that Steven Weber, who plays Archer, all but confirmed the shocking development. The actor told Deadline, “I think if you follow the breadcrumbs, you’ll see that it’s most likely that Archer is the father.” Weber then went on to tease what this means for his character and his relationship with Hannah.

Even though neither Chicago Med nor its producers verified Archer’s status as the father, the clues surrounding the Chicago Med season 10 finale’s pregnancy twist point towards him. So, when the NBC medical drama’s 11th season opens, viewers should expect to see Hannah and Archer confronting their newfound status as expecting parents. Archer already has a kid (and certainly didn’t plan on having another). Meanwhile, this will be Hannah’s first child. Hannah and Archer’s two very different situations open the door for many opportunities concerning what comes next for their relationship.

Why Archer & Hannah’s Relationship Can’t Turn Romantic In Chicago Med Season 11
They Have An Important Dynamic

Yes, Hannah and Archer are (probably) having a baby together in Chicago Med season 11. However, Hannah’s pregnancy doesn’t justify her and Archer’s relationship turning romantic. This isn’t 1950 — the two characters don’t have to get married just because they are having a baby. They shouldn’t feel obligated to start dating for the sake of their child. Hannah and Archer should only get together because they want to, not because of any external factors, which means their dynamic must remain platonic in season 11.

Hannah and Archer’s relationship is one of the show’s best and most important. In fact, they are one of One Chicago’s best pairs. But if they were to become a couple, all of that could be ruined. Bringing romance into a relationship has ripped many close duos apart throughout Chicago Med and the One Chicago franchise as a whole. It would be quite tragic if that were to happen to Hannah and Archer. Their connection is strong enough without romance already, and their bond will become even stronger when they have this baby together.

Archer & Hannah Would Be Great At Co-Parenting In Chicago Med Season 11 Instead
It Would Be More Interesting To See Them Navigate Co-Parenting

Some fans have been praying for the day that Hannah and Archer get together in Chicago Med. However, in addition to all the reasons listed above for why they shouldn’t explore a romance, it’d be much more interesting to see them as co-parents. Hannah and Archer would face obstacles, no doubt. At the end of the day, though, their unique and special connection would make them great co-parents. Becoming a couple could ruin that bond, especially if they break up, and the one who would suffer the most is the Chicago Med duo’s baby.

Chicago Med season 11 premieres in the fall of 2025, with new episodes airing on Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on NBC.
