Will Trent Season 4 Teases Major Romance Twist — Is Sara Finally Joining the Show?

Will’s love life has been chaotic (to say the least) in Will Trent since the first season, but the protagonist might finally find true love in season 4. Since the show’s beginning, Will has been pining for Angie. Even when he was with her, he was pining for her.

However, now that Angie is having a baby with someone else in Will Trent, it might be time for Will to finally move on from his relationship with his longtime best friend. The future that he had planned for himself and Angie won’t happen, opening the door for a new love interest for Will

Will Trent is based on Karin Slaughter’s book series of the same name, and they both revolve around the eponymous GBI agent. Aside from Will, the ABC show has adapted several characters from the novels. The Will Trent main cast consists of Ramón Rodríguez as Will, Erika Christensen as Angie, Iantha Richardson as Faith, Sonja Sohn as Amanda, and Jake McLaughlin as Ormewood. All of them are book characters, but they aren’t the only important figures in the story on the page. As such, the TV series still has many people to introduce, including Will’s true love.

Forget Angie, Will Trent’s True Love Interest Is Sara (At Least According To The Books)
Yes, Angie plays an integral role in Will’s story in Will Trent and in Karin Slaughter’s novels. However, she isn’t the only important woman in his life (at least, romantically) in the book series. Sara Linton is Will’s true love, and it’s only a matter of time before the ABC police procedural show introduces her.

In Slaughter’s series, Sara is a doctor. I won’t go too far into her backstory just in case the TV show chooses to explore it. But let’s just say that Sara had a rough life, similar to Will’s.

Will and Sara eventually develop feelings for one another. Unfortunately, Will’s on-and-off relationship with Angie often gets in the way, but most agree that Will and Sara have a healthier dynamic. So, Will Trent could follow the trajectory of Will’s romance arc from the novels concerning Sara.

Or Will Trent could continue straying from the books and either change Sara’s story or exclude her from the narrative altogether. However, the latter seems unlikely, especially after Ramón Rodríguez’s comments about introducing Sara.

Ramon Rodriguez Teases That Sara May Finally Arrive In Will Trent Season 4\

Before the Will Trent season 3 finale, Ramón Rodríguez discussed the show and what’s to come in season 4 during an interview with Remezcla. They directly asked him about Sara and whether fans should expect to see her in the police procedural series anytime soon. Rodríguez responded:

“That’s something that we talk about, and we’re very mindful of when and how we bring characters in, if they’re from the books or not. And I know it’s something people want; we all were very aware of it… I think it’s something that, at some point, we are going to probably have to figure out how to integrate. We haven’t gotten too specific about it. But it is something that we talk about, so we’ll see what ends up happening there.”

Rodríguez was seemingly very careful with his words regarding Sara’s possible appearance in Will Trent season 4. However, the actor/executive producer said that he and the other producers will likely “have to figure out how to integrate” Sara into the crime drama sometime in the future, suggesting she will show up at one point or another. Given how Will and Angie’s story ends in Will Trent season 3, it might be time for the writers to usher in a new, more permanent love interest for Will (aka Sara).

How Sara’s Possible Arrival Could Change Will Trent
If Will Trent season 4 were to bring Sara into the fold, everything would change in the ABC series. Sara is such a big character in the books that her presence would have to have a significant impact on the show and its characters.

Of course, Sara plays an important role in Will’s life, which should translate to the screen. Her arrival won’t be a Marion 2.0 situation like in season 3. If Sara appears in Will Trent season 4, it’s more likely that she is here to stay for a long time, forever changing Will’s story and his relationship with Angie.
