Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd remain two of the most iconic characters on the One Chicago series, and their relationship is one of the most beloved in all of Chicago Fire. It’s safe to say that Stellaride has had its ups and downs throughout the show’s 13 seasons so far, but they’re clearly soulmates and meant for each other. Despite the many obstacles they’ve faced in their love, and of course a high-profile breakup in Chicago Fire season 7, the couple has always found a way to get back together.
The couple eventually got married in Chicago Fire season 10, but found themselves at odds over the issue of children. Kelly repeatedly expressed her desire to have children, although Stella was less than enthusiastic, and after missing out on adoption, the Chicago Fire season 13 finale revealed that Stella was pregnant. Chicago Fire season 14 will see the couple become parents, but this could actually create more problems for Stellaride and potentially tear them apart.
Stella and Kelly’s lives will be delayed in Chicago Fire season 14
The first season of Chicago Fire season 14 will likely feature a time jump, and I suspect that Stellaride’s child will be born, or very soon, after the first season premieres. There will be a lot of problems for the couple, both before and after the baby is born, and one of the biggest will revolve around their careers. Both characters are very determined and career-oriented, not to mention independent, but a child will definitely change things in that regard. They both work in dangerous careers, which could add to the anxiety of having a child on the other side.
Another factor that is sure to add tension to the situation is that both Kidd and Severide are natural leaders and enjoy taking the lead, which has caused problems in their relationship in the past. When it comes to parenting, this could lead to two very different approaches to parenting, which is sure to cause some conflict. The couple has also struggled with stability for years, which is a major factor in raising a child, so trouble could be on the horizon for these fan favorites.
A child could reopen old wounds for the couple
Severide and Stella are a solid couple, but they have both had experiences that could affect their ability to parent the way they want. In fact, the baby, while a blessing, can actually reopen some old wounds for Stellarid and add conflict to each of their lives, including how they want to approach parenthood. Severide’s father, Benny, still has a presence in his life (despite his passing six years ago), after abandoning him as a child, leaving Kelly with abandonment issues, which may add to Severide’s insecurities about his ability to be a good father.
For Stella, the idea of having a child took her a while to get used to, and the couple’s failure to adopt a child was quite traumatic. Now that Stella finally has a child, and a child conceived naturally, this may add to her fear of losing her child and may cause her to become overprotective of her child. Of course, this can lead to her own problems and frequent conflicts between her and Severide.
Parenthood Could Push Stellaride in Different Directions
One of the biggest challenges Stellaride could face in becoming a parent is the impact it would have on their careers. They are both very busy with their careers, and a child would shake things up, especially for Stella. The whole reason for Stellaride’s adoption storyline during the Chicago Fire in the first place was that Stella didn’t want to get pregnant. Given the nature of her firefighting career, it’s understandable that she might believe this would limit her ability to do aspects of her job that she still wants to do.
Now that she’s pregnant, these are concerns she could face in the new season. At the very least, if the child is born, she could face the changes that childbirth brings to her body that could prevent her from doing the things she wants to do. This is especially true when it comes to taking parental leave. On the other hand, it wouldn’t be entirely surprising to see Severide throw himself into work to deal with the stress, which could cause tension between him and Stella.
What this means for Stellaride’s Chicago Fire Season 14 journey
A baby always changes things, but not always for the better, and there’s every chance that Stellaride could face a lot of issues throughout the season. One of the issues that could become apparent pretty early on could be the fact that they may have different priorities, especially when it comes to work and the baby. Stella that could prove to be an issue for the couple.
