Will Trent star Ramón Rodríguez has talked about how his “unicorn” procedural show has upended network television. Rodríguez has starred in Will Trent since the show premiered on ABC in January 2023, and followed the titular character, a dyslexic product of Atlanta’s foster system, who has the highest clearance rate at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Since its release, the show has received acknowledgment for its quirky lead, engaging supporting cast, complex mysteries, and exploration of social themes. The Will Trent season 3 finale episode ended on a cliffhanger, setting up the upcoming, highly anticipated fourth season.

Per Deadline, Rodríguez discussed the impact Will Trent has had on his career, as well as on Latin representation on network television. In the interview, he talked about his love for the show, praising the acting, directing, and casting, and talked about how proud he is of the show, and the impact it has had.

He spoke about how great it has been to have a growing fanbase on both Hulu and ABC, and how the show continues to push boundaries. Check out Rodríguez’s comments below:

DEADLINE: Looking back to the beginning of your journey with Will Trent, did you ever imagine you’d be here right now with one of the biggest shows on TV?

RAMÓN RODRÍGUEZ: This business is so wild. You can’t tell when something’s gonna work and why. You can’t predict it, but it’s proven because we continue to grow our fanbase year after year, both on ABC and Hulu. That’s unheard of today with the state of the industry; it’s a unicorn. I don’t know how this happens, but we work hard to create something special and elevated, especially for a show on linear TV. I used to have a stigma about that.

I was always a little reluctant about network and broadcast television. When I still had time to watch TV, I turned to HBO or other premium channels. So I thought, if I was going to work on a broadcast show, we would push the envelope with high quality in every aspect, which is what we’ve done. My partners and I are committed to putting in the work creatively, and I’m proud of what we’ve done so far with Will Trent.

What This Means For Will Trent’s Legacy
Will Trent continues to be a show that pushes boundaries and explores important issues through its storytelling. The success of the show on both streaming and broadcast shows means that there is still an audience for this show, and that many are excited about the direction Will Trent is looking to take. Rodríguez’s comments reveal that he is very proud that the show’s fanbase continues to grow, and that he is committed to producing the best-quality show imaginable, in order to keep viewers coming back.

Will in Will Trent season 3, episode 7
With Will Trent season 4 set to air this fall, there are plenty more shocks and surprises to come, and the show has really put its protagonist through the writing, which is set to bring more intense plot points for the coming season. Will Trent is developing a strong reputation as a high-quality, intelligent, and well-crafted procedure, and if that can continue, there is no reason why the show cannot keep growing its fanbase as a result.

Our Take On Will Trent’s Long-Term Success
After three seasons on the air, Will Trent is really hitting its stride now, and continues to produce top-quality television. Now that the characters in Will Trent are so perfectly realized and well-rounded, there are so many more things that the show can do with them, and storylines that can be explored. Season 4 is really the moment where Will Trent can make a statement and really look to assert its dominance as one of the most exciting, nuanced, and clever procedures on network television.
