Will Trent Meets His Uncle (and Betty Makes a New Friend) in Sneak Peek

As previously reported, Season 2, Episode 6 of the ABC drama (airing Tuesday at 8/7c) introduces Will’s long-lost uncle — Lucy Morales’ brother, Antonio Miranda (played by American Fiction’s John Ortiz). The network described Antonio as “warm and charismatic,” and that’s evident in his introduction.

The next scene shows Will and Betty eagerly awaiting his arrival. Moments later, Antonio happily appears before them with his dog companion — meet Portia!

Antonio and Will both seem nervous — Antonio is worried that he’s not dressed appropriately when he sees his nephew in his signature three-piece suit; Will is obsessed with impressing his uncle by introducing him to the best shrimp tacos in town — but all those nerves begin to melt away when Antonio holds his sister’s son for the first time.

Will Trent executive producer Liz Heldens previously teased Uncle Antonio’s debut in a February interview with TVLine. “It’s interesting because Will is [usually] surrounded by women,” like Angie, Faith, and Amanda, the EP pointed out. “

He’s surrounded by women, he listens to women, and he really respects women. But it was interesting, as we were writing toward the end of the season, to ask ourselves what it would be like to have a male role model who’s really appealing to Will.

What does that feel like for someone who’s different than him?” Will Trent was recently renewed for Season 3, which will premiere during the 2024-25 broadcast season. New episodes of Season 2 continue to air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC (and stream the next day on Hulu).
