Gordon Ramsay ‘collapsed like a wimp’ and ‘blacked out’ while holding newborn son

When Gordon Ramsay’s wife Tana gave birth to their fifth child, Oscar, the celebrity chef ‘blacked out’ at the sight of blood, he revealed in a podcast interview

Gordon Ramsay said he “collapsed like a wimp” and “blacked out” while holding his newborn son after seeing “blood everywhere.”

The celebrity chef, 58, revealed his wife Tana didn’t want him in the delivery room when she gave birth to their first four children – Megan, twins Holly and Jack, and Matilda. But when their fifth child, Oscar, was born in 2019, he tried to be by her side.

However, during an appearance on the June 9 episode of the Smartless podcast, Gordon told co-host Sean Hayes that seeing blood on the ground after Tana had a C-section made him feel unwell. He explained, “When I did finally arrive in the theater for our fifth baby, I f—— collapsed like a wimp and I blacked out holding Oscar in the air.”

Sharing further details of the day Oscar was born, the chef explained, “I said, ‘Can you play Ed Sheeran?’ So they started playing Ed. ‘But can you turn up the volume? I can hear all these noises. Turn up the volume. And all of a sudden, I saw two more doctors dive in. I looked on the floor and there was blood everywhere.”

He added, “And all of a sudden, they popped him out and then they came straight over to me. I went, ‘Whoa, whoa whoa. S—!’ Yeah and then I sat back and I collapsed like a f—— idiot.” After welcoming Oscar, Tana and Gordon had another son, Jesse James, in 2023.

Gordon, a three Michelin star culinary maestro, is keen on instilling strong work values in his children, ensuring they understand the importance of hard graft rather than relying on their privileged background. Proud of his older children’s diverse career choices, Gordon does admit to a twinge of disappointment that his daughter Tilly, aspiring to be a chef, opted for training at Ireland’s Ballymaloe Cookery School instead of one of his own kitchens.

He emphasized the importance of balance in life, saying, “Balance is critical. Every time we were filming throughout the US the kids would come with us and then we were take them out of school two weeks early, and they put them back two weeks late, so we would do the filming schedules around the shooting schedules.

“It’s a lot easier now, we had four amazing kids and then Tana and I has this crazy idea to go back for more. So there’s quite a big gap. Megan, she’s our eldest, she’s 26, she’s an incredible police officer back in London.

“Then we have the twins who are 25; Jack is a Royal Marines Commando, Holly is in to her fashion. And then there’s Matilda, who is 23, who has just come back from culinary school, would you believe, a beautiful school called Ballymaloe.

“I am a little bit miffed that she didn’t ask me to train her and she’s gone off elsewhere. She’s seen the shows, that’s the problem! You’ve got to give them the values, and instil those values, they can’t depend on mom and dad.”

During an interview on Live with Kelly and Mark last month, the dad-of-six revealed his wife would like to have another child. Joking about the age difference between the children, with Matilda born in 2001 and Oscar in 2019, Kelly Ripa said: “So you took like a break in the middle, so you were like overwhelmed, and then, just when things calm down, you were like ‘Let’s do it again’.”

He blamed his wife, who he pointed out in the audience as he said she already “wants one more”. The camera showed his wife smiling in the audience as the Hell’s Kitchen star made the announcement.
