Suzanne Somers’ Co-Stars Joyce DeWitt and Patrick Duffy Remember Their ‘Dear and Deep Friend’

Former co-stars and friends of Suzanne Somers are mourning the death of the Three’s Company and Step By Step star, who passed away on Oct. 15 at age 76.

“Like everyone who knew her, I was stunned yesterday when I heard that my dear and deep friend Suzanne had passed away,” Patrick Duffy, who starred with Somers on Step By Step from 1991 to 1998, told PEOPLE magazine on Monday. “In that brief moment, it was unbelievable.

But she really is gone. She has passed through my life beautifully on this never-ending journey of hers. My job now is to stay on the sidelines as she continues to walk.”

Duffy also said he would miss “the phone calls, the emails, the visits, the meals and the laughter.” His statement continued: “But the deep and thoughtful, silly and frivolous dialogue continues. My conversations with her will now only be conducted through my daily Buddhist practice.”

“I am not the only one who wishes she and [her husband] Alan were face to face again, but if we had that meeting last Friday, I would still long to see her again today,” Duffy added.

“That is the painful beauty of the current human reality. I send all the strength and support I can muster to Alan and [her son] Bruce and her family and I want to tell her; When your life’s rock fell into this pond, you created a huge ripple, my friend. Thank you.”

Similarly, Somers on Three’s Company co-star Joyce DeWitt released a statement to PEOPLE. “My condolences to Suzanne’s family,” DeWitt said. “They are a very close-knit family — deeply connected and caring for each other.

I can only imagine how difficult this time is for all of them.” She continued, “I’m sure Suzanne has been welcomed by the Angels into the loving wisdom that awaits us all on the other side, and I hope that helps her family heal their hearts as they navigate this difficult time.”
