‘It’s not hard to let Chad go,’ the soap star expressed.
The Young and the Restless star Billy Flynn opened up about Conner Floyd taking over the role of Chad on Days of Our Lives. Flynn exited the Peacock soap in March after 10 years of playing Chad to join Y&R as the new Cane, previously played by Daniel Goddard.
It’s an interesting turn of events to have the two soaps simply swap actors, but that’s what’s happening. Flynn was one of many soap stars who shared messages to Floyd after news broke that he was headed to Salem.
Along with sharing a message on social media, Flynn addressed Floyd being the new Chad during an interview with Michael Fairman TV.
“I don’t think it could have been a better person. I really, really like Conner. I think we eerily sound similar, you know? I saw him in the halls one day (at Y&R), and the first time I met him, I said, ‘I hear congratulations are in order.’ I just wanted to break the tension right away,” Flynn shared.
Things are always changing in the soap world, and Flynn knows he doesn’t own any character he plays. It’s one reason he’s okay with passing the Chad baton to Floyd.
“It’s not hard to let Chad go, especially when it’s somebody as good of a guy as Conner taking it over. We talked a lot leading up to it. These parts aren’t ours. I gave Chad everything and Chad gave me everything,” he expressed, adding, “I think Conner is going to do amazing.”
Flynn is no stranger to playing recast roles. After all, he was a Chad recast, replacing Casey Deidrick, who originated the role. Now playing a recast again, Flynn knows fans need time to adjust to a new character, especially when the physical differences are drastic.
“When I took over Chad, the person was taller and more handsome. When I took over Cane, I was shorter and not Australian, and now, according to some, less handsome, and I might agree with you. And now, the guy taking my last part is taller and more handsome than me. So, Chad just got a lot more beautiful,” Flynn spilled.
While Flynn has already made his debut on The Young and the Restless as Cane, Days of Our Lives fans will still see him as Chad until early 2026. Due to the Peacock soap’s advanced filming schedule, Floyd won’t debut until April 21, 2026, so Chad will be off-screen for a few months in the new year.
There’s no word yet on when Floyd will wrap his run as Chance on Y&R. However, considering the show’s filming schedule is six to eight weeks out instead of months, Chance will exit the canvas this summer.
