Chicago Fire Adds New Cast Member for Season 14 — and You’ll Recognize Him From a Canceled Show
Chicago Fire is returning this fall with a new, 14th season and a new cast member.
Brandon Larracuente, who previously starred on another Dick Wolfe show, On Call, before the show was canceled, has joined the beloved NBC drama.
The news of his casting comes after all three shows from the One Chicago franchise, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD, were renewed by NBC last month, as well as their main cast members.
Brandon joins Chicago Fire, which also stars Taylor Kinney, Jesse Spencer, Kara Killmer and Miranda Rae Mayo, among others, as a key member of Firehouse 51, according to Deadline, though details about other characters are still unclear.
His casting comes not only amid the cancellation of his previous show On Call, but also amid the departure of Chicago Fire regulars Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett.
On Call, which starred Pretty Little Liars alum Troian Bellissario and Full House star Lori Loughlin, was canceled by Prime Video in May after just one eight-episode season.
According to Deadline, there have been attempts to pitch the show to other networks; no deals have been made, although there is still hope that the show will air elsewhere for a second season.
As for the future of the One Chicago universe, the outlet reported earlier this month that all of the three series’ main cast members, including Taylor as well as Fire’s Miranda and Dermot Mulroney, plus Chicago P.D.’s Jason Beghe and Chicago Med’s S. Epatha Merkerson and Oliver Platt, will return to their roles.
All three Fire actors have signed new contracts to continue on the series, which first premiered in 2012, while Oliver and Med’s S. Epatha — who starred on Law & Order for 17 seasons from 1993 to 2010 — signed a multiyear deal last year.
The three shows will return in the fall for 21 episodes, but the actors will be absent for a few episodes throughout their respective seasons, a new cost-cutting measure from NBC.
All three shows air Wednesday on NBC, and Deadline previously reported that the current seasons of the three shows have been viewed nearly 46 million times so far on NBC and Peacock, according to NBCUniversal, with all three shows’ streaming viewership increasing year-over-year.
Chicago Fire aired its final episode of season 13 on May 21 and saw Miranda and Stella Kidd’s character Taylor surprised by a positive pregnancy test.
