Chrishell vs. the Golden Bachelor: Age Limits, Wigs, and a Whole Lot of Backlash Mel Owens under fire as fans — and celebs — react to his dating demands.

Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause has thoughts about new Golden Bachelor Mel Owens’ alleged age requirements for the next season.

“We love the Golden Bachelor because of how wholesome it is,” Chrishell, 43, wrote via her Instagram Stories on Thursday, June 26, reacting to a headline about Mel’s comments. “This type of energy will ruin it.”

Chrishell set her post to Bishop Bullwinkle’s “Hell to Da Naw Naw Naw.”

Mel, 66, recently revealed that he hoped the casting producers would enlist a crop of younger women for his season.“They ask me, ‘What’s your preference?’ So I just said [ages] 45 to 60, just being honest,” Mel said on the “MGoBlue” podcast earlier this month. “And then we had lunch with the executive producer. I said, ‘You know, if they’re 60 or over, I’m cutting them.’”

Mel further claimed that one of the show executives told him he couldn’t just cut any woman over the age of 60 because “this is not the Silver Bachelor.”

“He goes, ‘You can’t use the word cut.’ I go, ‘Well, that’s an NFL term,’” Mel, who used to play in the NFL, recalled before detailing his other dating preferences. “They asked me, ‘What is my profile?’ Well, [the women] got to be fit because I’m staying in shape and work out and stuff. And I told them, ‘Try to stay away from the artificial hips and the wigs, you know, that kind of stuff, right?’”

ABC has not publicly addressed any of Mel’s claims or revealed the casting lineup. Us Weekly reached out for comment at the time.
News broke in April that Mel would be the next Golden lead, following in Gerry Turner and Joan Vassos’ respective footsteps.

“Mel is obviously super handsome. He’s very charming, he’s very intelligent, he’s very successful,” show host Jesse Palmer exclusively told Us that month. “He had this incredible pro football career and transitioned into becoming a successful warrior. I think while he’s had a lot of success professionally, there have been some hills and valleys in his personal life.”

According to the 46-year-old Bachelor Nation host, Mel has been through “difficult times” stemming from both his father’s death and a divorce. (Mel shares two sons with his ex-wife, whose name has not been shared publicly.)

“I think oftentimes you find out about somebody’s character when they go through tough, difficult times and it shifted all his focus and attention to raising his two boys,” Jesse added to Us. “He really became this devoted father, he put so much energy into them.”

He continued, “He’s just looking for companionship. It’s just really pure and just listening to him talk about it is really moving. So I think he’s going to be a great lead. I think he’s a great choice to be our next Golden Bachelor.”

The Golden Bachelor season 2 does not yet have a premiere date.
