Chicago Fire Is Dethroned on Streaming by Alan Tudyk’s Sci-Fi Sleeper With 98% on Rotten Tomatoes

NBC’s mainstay drama Chicago Fire is facing competition on the streaming charts from an underrated sci-fi series starring a Juilliard-trained actor. As of July 29, Resident Alien, starring the versatile Alan Tudyk, has surpassed Chicago Fire to claim the No. 7 spot in Peacock’s Top 10 TV shows, per FlixPatrol. Resident Alien, which premiered its fourth season on USA and SYFY on June 6, streams on Peacock and could soon dethrone another Chicago series, Chicago P.D., which currently sits in the No. 6 spot.

CBR recently named Resident Alien one of the most underrated sci-fi shows. The series stars Tudyk as an alien who is sent from another planet to Earth to wipe out humanity. But he crash-lands in a remote Colorado town and is forced to remain there. The series has a nearly perfect 98% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Tudyk Gives a “Masterclass” Performance in Resident Alien

Ultimately, he disguises himself as a doctor named Harry Vanderspeigle and gets tangled in the web that is small-town living. As he spends more time with human beings, while trying to locate his missing device that would wipe out humanity, he starts to question his original mission. CBR called Tudyk’s performance a “masterclass in comedic alien awkwardness.” The show blends science fiction and comedy with a bit of heart thrown in for good measure.

Tudyk is a Sci-Fi Veteran

Tudyk is no stranger to the world of science fiction, having starred in the short-lived yet cult classic Firefly in 2002 and appearing as the android K-2SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and its Disney+ prequel series Andor. Tudyk also showed off his comedy chops in movies like A Knight’s Tale, Death at a Funeral, and has lent his voice to several animated movies like Wreck-It Ralph, Wish, and Moana 2. Tudyk even spoofed himself and his Firefly role in the underrated comedy series Con Man, which aired from 2015 to 2017. He even earned an Emmy nod for his role as Wray Nerely in that series.

Tudyk Will Once Again Voice a Robotic Character

Up next for Tudyk is an appearance in James Gunn’s highly anticipated Superman movie, which hits theaters on July 11. In April, Gunn confirmed that Tudyk would be providing the voice of Robot 4 in the upcoming DC Universe film. Gunn took to Threads, responding to a fan who had speculated whether it was Tudyk’s voice behind the character in a sneak peek released ahead of the movie. “You’ve got me,” Gunn responded.

Tudyk’s Robot 4 is one of 12 robot servants stationed at the Fortress of Solitude. In the clip from the movie, the robots are shown helping Superman heal his wounds. Like his Rogue One character, Robot 4 is a robotic ally. Superman will also reunite Tudyk with his Firefly co-star Nathan Fillion, who will be playing Green Lantern in the upcoming movie. Fillion also appeared in several episodes of Con Man with Tudyk.

Resident Alien is streaming on Peacock. The series, in addition to Tudyk, also stars Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, Alice Wetterlund, Levi Fisher, Elizabeth Bowen, Judah Prehn, and Elizabeth Bowen.
