Tilly Ramsay Says Dad Gordon Is a ‘Massive Softy’ When the Cameras Stop Rolling

To millions around the world, Gordon Ramsay is the fiery, no-nonsense kitchen commander who’s made a name for himself by shouting across stoves, throwing raw scallops in the bin, and telling hapless chefs their risotto is “bloody embarrassing.” But behind the intense TV persona lies a man his daughter Tilly Ramsay knows quite differently — and in her words, he’s a “massive softy” when he’s not wearing his chef’s whites.

In a recent interview, Tilly peeled back the curtain on what it’s really like to be raised by one of the most famous — and most feared — chefs on the planet. Her revelations paint a surprising picture: one of warmth, hugs, homemade dinners, and yes, the occasional tears.

“He’s honestly the biggest softy ever,” Tilly said, laughing. “People think he’s scary, and trust me, I’ve seen the TV side of him too. But at home, he’s the most emotional one in the family.” According to Tilly, Gordon is known for tearing up during sad movies, being the first to give a hug when someone’s feeling down, and calling his kids “20 times a day” when he’s traveling. “He just wants to know we’re okay,” she said. “Even if it’s just to ask what we’re having for lunch.” His affection isn’t limited to emotional check-ins. Tilly says he’s hands-on — always offering to cook dinner, plan surprises, or leave little notes around the house. “He’s the kind of dad who remembers anniversaries and cries at birthdays,” she revealed.

Gordon and his wife Tana have five children — Megan, twins Jack and Holly, Tilly, and baby Oscar — and despite his demanding schedule, the celebrity chef makes it a point to be present. “He’s not just around,” Tilly emphasized. “He’s involved. He helps with homework, watches every one of our performances, and still tries to tuck Oscar into bed whenever he can.” Even when filming across the world, Gordon keeps in touch through voice notes, FaceTime calls, and family group chats filled with emojis and dad jokes. “He’s super funny,” Tilly admitted. “He’s always sending memes — though sometimes they’re terribly out of date.”

The family’s dinner table isn’t a restaurant review either. “We don’t get feedback every night. We just eat together, like a normal family.” While Tilly describes her dad as loving and soft-hearted, she’s quick to add that he also has high expectations. “He’s strict in a good way. He wants us to work hard and stay grounded. If we mess up, he’ll call us out — but not in a scary way.”

That discipline helped Tilly succeed on her own, especially when she took part in Strictly Come Dancing, where she quickly became a fan favorite. Gordon was known to tear up in the audience every week and even posted emotional tributes on social media. “He cried when I got eliminated,” Tilly said. “He said he was proud — and honestly, that meant everything.”

The father-daughter duo has often been seen together on cooking shows and red carpets, but their bond goes beyond appearances. “He’s one of my best friends,” Tilly said. “I can tell him anything. He listens. He’s supportive. He’s always got my back.” Gordon, in turn, has expressed nothing but admiration for Tilly. On multiple occasions, he’s described her as “stronger than she knows” and “the heart of the family.”

Tilly’s stories offer a refreshing contrast to Gordon’s public persona. While most people know him for his intensity and expletive-laced critiques, those who know him personally — especially his family — know a man full of love, loyalty, and vulnerability. “He’s still Gordon Ramsay,” Tilly admitted. “He’s still intense and passionate. But that passion comes from a place of love. He cares deeply about everything — especially his family.” She paused before adding: “If people saw what I see, they’d understand that behind the shouting is someone with the biggest heart.”

Tilly Ramsay is quickly making a name for herself as a television personality, dancer, and chef in her own right. But no matter how far she goes, she’s not afraid to share her truth — that her dad, Gordon Ramsay, may be a kitchen firebrand to the world, but to her, he’s a teddy bear. “He’s tough in the kitchen, yes,” she said. “But he’s also the dad who cries during Frozen, brings you tea when you’re sad, and texts you a dozen times just to say ‘I love you.’ That’s the side of him I’ll always cherish.”
