Charlie Hunnam admits regret turning down Fifty Shades Of Grey lead role

Charlie Hunnam has revealed his bank balance would probably be very different had he taken on the role of Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades Of Grey films.

The Rebel Moon actor is thought to have declined the role as the leading man in the saucy film adaptation of E.L. James’ novel due to ‘scheduling issues’ with Sons of Anarchy in 2013.

The star told TMZ that because of the filming fate, he’s now ‘not nearly as rich as I would have been’ had he jumped on board the blockbuster franchise.

Speaking about the movie, Hunnam admitted he still hasn’t watched it. He said: “I have not seen it, but that’s not by design. I want to see it. I’ve been waiting.”

The Jax Taylor actor was due to front the 2015 film
starring Dakota Johnson
and directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, which later
went to Jamie Dornan
who appeared in sequels Fifty Shades Darker (2017) and Fifty Shades Freed (2018).

Other actors who were in the running to portray Mr Grey in the franchise, which grossed over $1 billion, were Twilight’s Robert Pattinson,
Barbie’s Ryan Gosling
, Succession’s Alexander Skarsgard and The Gentleman’s Theo James.

Hunnam told Entertainment Weekly in 2015: “It was very, very painful for me, that whole process, just very unpleasant. I felt like I let myself down.

“I let those people down on Fifty Shades that I’d grown to really love and respect. It’s just a really unpleasant period of time for me.”
