ABC’s hit crime series Will Trent is back for a thrilling second season, and the stars and producers came together at the Winter Television Critics Association (TCA) to reveal some behind-the-scenes stories and reveal the series’ new direction.
The press conference was filled with excitement and pride as ABC continues to trust Will Trent to continue to grow into one of the network’s most beloved crime franchises.
Ramón Rodríguez: Will Trent Will Get Even More Complicated
Ramón Rodríguez, who plays Agent Will Trent, said he’s excited for the new season to delve deeper into the character’s dark past:
“Season 1 established Will as an exceptional detective, but Season 2 will show the audience his childhood traumas and how they still influence his every decision.”
Rodríguez shared that continuing to play Will Trent was a stressful challenge but also a source of pride for his career. He revealed that the new season will have many scenes that require intense emotions when Will faces secrets that have never been revealed.
Sonja Sohn: Amanda Will Reveal the Hidden Side of Mother and Son with Will
Sonja Sohn, who plays Amanda Wagner, revealed that the relationship between Amanda and Will is one of the key emotional axes of this season.
“The audience will understand more clearly why Amanda is so fiercely protective of Will. The two of them have a hidden bond like mother and son, both painful and savior.”
Sohn emphasized that Amanda is not only a strict boss but also the only support for Will when he grew up in the cold foster system. The new season will have separate episodes focusing on Amanda’s past and how she became Will’s support when he was an abandoned child.
Faith & Will: Teamwork Will Be Tightened
Iantha Richardson, who plays Faith Mitchell, shared that season 2 will not only be about tense cases but also deepen the friendship and trust between Faith and Will.
“Faith used to be suspicious of Will, but now she trusts him completely. This season, they will go through cases together that will put both of them at risk for their personal safety.”
Richardson also revealed that there will be another “MacGyver Episode,” where Faith will have to manage to survive and rescue hostages on her own – somewhat recreating the physical challenges she went through last season.
Angie & Will: A Messy Love Story That Still Hasn’t Ended
Erika Christensen (Angie Polaski) emphasized that the love story between Will and Angie will continue to be complicated and painful.
“They both have too many wounds to easily come together. But they can’t completely break up.”
Viewers will see Angie face tough choices to heal herself, while Will must learn to set boundaries. Producers promise their love story will be the most dramatic arc of season 2, intertwined with investigation and personal obsession.
New Crime – New Challenge
Executive producer Liz Heldens said season 2 will take Will and his team on a series of more complex cases, including:
A serial killer who targets victims who have committed crimes.
A mysterious disappearance in a wealthy community with political intrigue.
A series of crimes involving child trafficking – a topic that haunts Will because it reminds him of his own childhood.
Cast Sends Message Together
At TCA, the entire cast agreed that Will Trent is not just a crime investigation series, but also a story of healing, the struggle to affirm one’s self-worth, and the search for true family.
Ramón Rodríguez concluded emotionally:
“We tell Will’s story not only to expose crime, but also to say that no matter where you come from, you deserve a home, a place of love.”
Will Trent season 2 will continue to air every Tuesday on ABC, promising to bring many episodes that are both thrilling and emotional. If you love the image of a damaged but resilient detective, Will Trent is a series not to be missed.
