The Big Bang Theory first premiered in September 2007, and after a multi-season run, the series ended but has since birthed two spin-offs. The franchise has one more in the works, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, the show has been in the works for some time now and despite extended periods of silence concerning the show, progress continues to be made. Franchise stalwart, Chuck Lorre, is attached to the project which is yet to be picked up formally by HBO Max. Despite the slight hiccup, preparations on the spin-off seem to be going well, albeit with updates sparse. Lorre, in a conversation with Variety, has revealed the episode count for the first season of Stuart Fails To Save The Universe.
The new series will be led by the character, Stuart, portrayed by Kevin Sussman. Stuart is known in the original series for being stuck in a cycle of unfortunate situations. Lorre, while speaking at Banff World Media Festival, Lorre revealed how many episodes he worked on with Bill Prady and Zak Penn.
“I reunited with my old pal, Bill Prady, who I created ‘The Big Bang Theory’ with, and a wonderful science fiction feature writer named Zak Penn, who’s written a lot of gigantic, big time Marvel kind of movies with superheroes and things, and we’ve written 10 episodes of this thing.”
Like previously mentioned, Stuart Fails To Save The Universe.isn’t the first show to emerge in the wake of the success enjoyed by the flagship series, The Big Bang Theory. After following the adult adventures of Jim Parsons’s Sheldon Cooper for 12 seasons in the original series, Young Sheldon chronicles what life was like for the genuis as a young boy across seven seasons. Iain Armitage plays a younger version of the brilliant scientist, and the prequel was so impressive, it birthed a spin-off of its own, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage which has already been renewed for a second season.
‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ Brings Back Familiar Faces But Will Have a Different, Original Feel
Sussman return to the franchise as the main character in Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Fellow Big Bang Theory alum, Lauren Lapkus will return as Denise. The Jurassic World star was introduced in the original series as Stuart’s shy girlfriend. John Ross Bowie will return as Barry Kripke, a scientist and work rival for Sheldon and his friends over the course of many seasons. Also on board is Brian Posehn, who appeared in The Big Bang Theory in the role of Bert Kibbler, a geologist at Caltech. Lorre goes on to detail what separates Stuart Fails to Save the Universe from all the other shows in the franchise:
“There’s a lot of CGI. There’s a lot of special technical stuff that — you know, for me in my career, a big production number was two people sitting on a couch, drinking coffee! This is different. This is trying to incorporate some of that world of science fiction/fantasy into a comedy. And I’m completely out of my element, which is what I wanted. Which is what I was hoping to do, something that I had no experience with. And maybe I can learn as we go.”
