A new video from The Rookie season 8 reveals the reason why Nolan, Bailey, and the team are in Europe. With filming underway on season 8, Jenna Dewan shared photos and videos on her Instagram page that revealed part of the show’s cast and crew are filming in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic.
It marks the first time that the police procedural is filming overseas. And even though The Rookie season 8 won’t be back on ABC until sometime next year, we might have a better sense of what John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Bailey Nune (Dewan) are doing abroad in the first place.
In a TikTok from justmimi__, the fan shares her excitement about meeting Fillion in Prague. But a closer look at what’s happening in the background reveals that John and Bailey are with the recurring antagonist Monica Stevens (played by Bridget Regan), and they could be arresting her. Check out the video below:
What This Means For The Rookie Season 8
Monica Has Caused Some Chaos
Monica has been a recurring presence on the ABC series, appearing in 14 episodes since her debut in season 5. A shady lawyer with the confidence to pull it off, Monica is especially troublesome during her recent appearances. Gaining total immunity for her past crimes after some careful maneuvering, the antagonist seems invincible.
The Rookie’s season 7 finale sees Monica taunting Nolan and the team by walking right past them. She moves through Homeland Security, even asking Nolan whether he misses her. It’s not clear how the change of location might alter the dynamic between protagonist and antagonist, though it’s possible that Monica is not as untouchable as she thought.
In any case, though, it seems that the upcoming installment will split its time between Europe and the U.S. The Rookie cast, which includes Shawn Ashmore, Lisseth Chavez, Meika Cox, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil, Eric Winter, and Deric Augustine, may hold down the fort while the Monica follow-up unfolds in Prague.
Our Take On The Rookie’s Euro Reveal
It Shakes Things Up
Regan is an expert at playing a villain in a procedural. She played one of 9-1-1’s most outlandish antagonists and was even Poison Ivy on The CW’s Batwoman. Any idea that keeps her around a little longer is worth exploring, especially since it comes with a cool change of location that The Rookie will definitely have some fun with.
