“A Dream for West Texas Stories”: Ransom Canyon Author Jodi Thomas on Season 2 Renewal

Editor’s note: This story contains spoilers from the first season of “Ransom Canyon,” which debuted on Netflix earlier this year.

The sweeping story of “Ransom Canyon” will return to screens with a second season, Netflix announced on June 24, bringing fresh drama, new character arcs, and continued global attention to a tale deeply inspired by the rugged beauty and close-knit communities of West Texas.

No premiere date has been announced, and with production not yet underway, the earliest viewers can expect Season 2 to debut is sometime in 2026.

For author Jodi Thomas, a fifth-generation Texan and longtime Amarillo resident, the news feels like a dream come true.

“I love it! A part of me still doesn’t believe it,” Thomas said. “To think that something rooted in the canyons and ranches I know so well is now touching people across the world — it’s incredible.”

Thomas, who served as writer-in-residence at West Texas A&M University and has published more than 50 novels, is known for crafting emotionally layered stories set in small towns. Her “Ransom Canyon” series, now 11 books strong, draws directly from her experiences growing up near Caprock canyons and hearing family stories passed down over generations.
