It’s not looking so good for Ormewood in Will Trent season 4, folks. The detective has had a rough couple of seasons — from his custody battle to losing his partner (at least, for six months), Ormewood’s arc has been relentless. Perhaps it’s not as brutal as some of the other Will Trent main characters’ stories (e.g., Will), but it’s rough though.
Ormewood has arguably had the best character development in Will Trent, though. He was the absolute worst when the ABC police procedural series premiered in January 2023. Ormewood was cruel, abused his power as a law enforcement officer, and often cheated on his wife. However, having to take over as his kids’ main caregiver in season 2 seemed to open his eyes.
Ormewood then became one of the most intriguing and entertaining characters in Will Trent season 3. He was a great source of comic relief and even gained emotional depth. So, the thought of losing Ormewood in season 4 is worrisome.
Ormewood Had A Seizure In The Will Trent Season 3 Finale
Ormewood had a couple of brushes with death during the Will Trent season 3 finale. First, he went head-to-head with a group of bio-terrorists alongside Faith, Franklin, and a girls’ archery team. If it wasn’t for Will, one of the gunmen would likely have shot and killed Ormewood. Then, at the end of the Will Trent episode, Jake McLaughlin’s character suddenly collapsed.
Ormewood had returned home after a long day and was looking over his mail in the kitchen when his vision suddenly got blurry. He lost his balance and fell to the floor, calling for Faith. Ormewood started seizing when Faith rushed in and immediately called 9-1-1. She explained that she believed her friend was having a seizure.
However, just because Ormewood survives his seizure from the Will Trent season 3 finale, that doesn’t mean he’s in the clear (yet).
Unfortunately, the finale ended shortly after that, leaving viewers wondering if Ormewood would live to see Will Trent season 4. Of course, it wasn’t the episode’s only cliffhanger. The hour also concluded with Amanda in a coma after getting shot in the chest by one of the aforementioned bio-terrorists, while Will sat by her bedside.
Ormewood Still Won’t Be Out Of The Woods Following His Seizure
It’s more likely than not that Will Trent season 4 will open with Ormewood alive. The first responders will probably get to the APD detective in time and stabilize him before bringing him to the hospital. However, just because Ormewood survives his seizure from the Will Trent season 3 finale, that doesn’t mean he’s in the clear (yet).
As the audience knows, Ormewood learned he had a brain tumor in Will Trent season 3, episode 14. With the help of his friends, he got all his affairs in order to prepare for surgery to remove the mass, just in case something goes wrong. Ormewood had a seizure before he could take all the steps necessary to have surgery.
Ormewood’s recent health scare might accelerate the timeline of his operation in Will Trent season 4. With that surgery comes a lot of risks, though. I mean, it’s brain surgery, after all. Plus, it’s still unclear whether the tumor is cancerous or not. Even if the mass is benign, its presence alone could have done a lot of damage to Ormewood’s brain.
So, although Will Trent season 4 will likely begin with Ormewood alive, that doesn’t mean he’s out of the woods. He has a tumor in his brain that needs to be removed as soon as possible. As a result, fans should still be quite concerned about Ormewood’s fate in the upcoming Will Trent episodes.
The Chances Of Will Trent Killing Off Ormewood Are Slim (But Not Impossible)
At the end of the day, it’s more likely that Will Trent will kill off Amanda in season 4 before Ormewood. She got shot in the chest. Amanda’s fate is seems much more dire than Ormewood’s. Plus, the chances of the ABC police procedural series killing off two of its five main characters are slim to none. Will Trent isn’t Game of Thrones.
However, his dying isn’t completely impossible, given what happens to Ormewood in the Will Trent books (spoilers for Karin Slaughter’s book series ahead). Ormewood, who is evil through and through in the novels, dies in the first book. Angie kills him, as he’s the villain, and that’s that.
The good news is that Ormewood is a completely different character in the TV series. ABC’s Will Trent has paved an alternate route for Ormewood, meaning his ending in the books probably won’t be his ending in the show. However, fans must wait for Will Trent season 4 to premiere to learn what the writers have in store for Ormewood in season 4.
