Whatever Happened to Fabrizio From ‘Titanic’?

James Cameron’s Titanic is one of the most commercially successful films of all time. While Kate Winslet, who starred in the film as Rose, reportedly didn’t think that Titanic was her best work, the first movie to gross more than one billion dollars, the film won 11 Academy Awards.

Titanic tells the story of Jack and Rose, two people from different backgrounds who meet on the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic. Along with Leonardo DiCaprio (as Jack) and Kate Winslet, a slew of other actors worked on the picture and helped to bring it to life, including Danny Nucci as Jack’s BFF Fabrizio.

The cast of the 1997 film has come a long way since the making of this iconic movie. Danny Nucci has gone on to enjoy a successful career as an actor and musician, and it looks like he’s getting the happy ending that poor Fabrizio never had.

James Cameron’s ‘Titanic’

Titanic combines real history with fiction, detailing a made-up account of the love affair between Jack and Rose on the very real Titanic, which sank in 1912 after colliding with an iceberg.

While Jack and Rose are fictional, they represent countless people who were passengers on the infamous ship when it sank.

Several other actors appeared in the 1997 film, including Billy Zane, Gloria Stuart, Bill Paxton, Kathy Bates, Victor Garber, Jonathan Hyde, and Danny Nucci.

The Character Of Fabrizio, Played By Danny Nucci

Danny Nucci portrayed the role of Fabrizio, Jack’s Italian best friend with whom he initially boards the ship. Jack and Fabrizio only manage to get tickets five minutes before the ship leaves its moorings in Southampton after winning a game of Poker.

Fabrizio appears next to Jack in one of the most iconic scenes of the film. It takes place at the beginning, before Jack meets Rose, when he stands at the bow of the Titanic and shouts an improvised line: “I’m the king of the world.”

Later, Fabrizio is seen dancing with Jack and their friends at a steerage party that Rose sneaks to. The audience doesn’t see much of him again until the ship starts to sink, at which point Fabrizio is locked below deck with other third-class passengers.

They eventually manage to break through the gates, but Fabrizio is tragically killed when one of the ship’s gigantic funnels snaps away from its suspenders and crashes into the water, crushing him and several others.

Most Of Fabrizio’s Scenes Were Cut

According to I Heart Content, Danny Nucci was shocked to discover at the Titanic premiere that the majority of his scenes as Fabrizio had been cut.

“The first time I saw it, that was the predominant part of the experience,” the Austrian-born actor said. “When I saw it the second time, I was able to see the scope of what Jim had done… It was pretty amazing.”

Originally, Fabrizio had an even sadder and more dramatic death than the one where he’s crushed by the ship’s funnel. He was going to survive the sinking and swim to a lifeboat, only to be smacked in the face with an oar by Rose’s evil fiancé Cal.

“As I float away, the lifeboat slowly [disappears] into the gray,” Nucci said in an interview with Vanity Fair. “It was one of the scenes that drew me to the role. But after seeing the movie, I understand, because it’s just on and on with Cal. We get it; Cal is awful.”
