No More Marion? Will Trent EP Confirms Gina Rodriguez Won’t Return This Season

Will Trent EP Reveals We Won’t See Gina Rodriguez Again in Season 3 — But Will Marion Return in the Future?

TVLine can confirm that Gina Rodriguez — who joined the cast of the ABC crime drama as a series regular in August — will not appear in additional Season 3 episodes.

“Marion is not going to resurface before seasons’ end,” co-showrunner Liz Heldens tells TVLine. “It’s funny… when we started [Season 3], we were like, ‘Oh, 18 episodes is the biggest order we’ve ever done!’ And then when we got to the end, we were like, ‘We don’t have enough runway for everyone.’

“I think that Gina Rodriguez is wonderful. She pops off the screen.

We love her,” the EP reiterates. “It was an amazing experience to work with her, and I wouldn’t rule out her coming back in Season 4 at all.”
Marion was introduced in the Season 3 opener — first and foremost as an ADA.

But her relationship with Will quickly grew personal, and they went on their first date in Episode 6.

Alas, Will grew distant in the wake of a tragic accident that resulted in the shooting death of an innocent 14-year-old boy, and the pair broke things off in Episode 12.

The character appears once more in Episode 13, as part of a disco dream sequence that saw Will ask Marion to wait for him — possibly for up to two years! — until he was emotionally available again. Now it’s clear that their relationship will not be revisited ahead of Will Trent’s May 13 finale.
