Nathan Fillion channels his inner James Bond while filming The Rookie in Prague.

Nathan Fillion has been on some pretty cool sets over the years. From the far future of Firefly to the epic Metropolis of 2025’s Superman. However, he recently revealed that it was on the set of The Rookie that made him feel like James Bond as the show traded sunny LA for Prague to film the season eight opening.

It is hard to believe that Nathan Fillion had time to squeeze filming the long-running police procedural in between taking on the role of Guy Gardner (and his terrible bowl cut) in James Gunn’s Superman, but he revealed in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he’d recently gotten done filming portions of The Rookie season eight’s first episode in Prague and said the city gave him James Bond vibes in the best possible way.

“It felt like I was shooting Casino Royale,” he explained during the interview. “I’m tellin’ ya. I’m in a suit, walking down these incredible streets.”

The best thing about moving filming to a European location? The deep history behind the buildings and the streets. “I love the history. There’s so much history. ‘This building was built in the 1400s, but behind it are the old buildings.”

Fillion stopped well short of explaining why he and the rest of The Rookie team were in Prague to film a show set in Los Angeles, but it probably has something to do with the explosive events of the season seven finale, which included a diamond heist, gang shootings, and international espionage.

You can see Nathan Fillion in The Rookie season eight on ABC in January 2025. Or you can catch him as Guy Gardner in Superman, in theaters now.
