Chicago Fire’s David Eigenberg Reveals What’s Really Off Limits Behind the Scenes

Chicago Fire’s David Eigenberg: One thing crew members can’t do

Some people just have personality PLUS, and David Eigenberg is definitely one. If you’re a fan of Chicago Fire, you’re probably also a fan of Christopher Herrmann, David’s character.

This video interview goes down as one of my all-time favorites with some surprising responses from delightfully unpredictable David about casting “closeness” and getting along on set. (Now you have to watch, yes?)

David’s role as bar owner Steve Brady on Sex and the City has a familiar ring to it now, as he’s a co-owner of Molly’s local bar on Chicago Fire. David, 52, also played on Third Watch, Criminal Minds, N.C.I.S. and Castle, among others. His films include The Trouble with Romance and A Perfect Murder.

Originally from Long Island, New York, David performed in his first stage role at 12—a sign of great things to come, no doubt.

He was raised in the ‘burbs of Chicago—Naperville—and brings that sense of Illinois authenticity to his role. This former Marine told West Suburban Living the “rawness” and “brutality” of Chicago is “beautiful.” He does have a way with adjectives and described himself as “wispy,” “forlorn” and “handicapped” in that interview.

He’s liked not only by the viewers but by us journalists. He gained a fan in 2014, when Jenniffer Weigel of the Chicago Tribune called him “patient, kind and genuine.” Ditto that. His favorite actor? He says it’s Spencer Tracy and that his favorite show was Welcome Back, Kotter. He’s also a dedicated family man.

Parade.com has many videos from the recent One Chicago Day in the Windy City.

Enjoy spontaneous David here and don’t miss the return of Chicago Fire to your nightly must-watch list when it returns on January 3 on NBC at 9 p.m. ET.
