Elsbeth is digging up more than just facts this week — she’s headed straight to a funeral home with a mystery six feet deep. In Thursday’s new episode, “Four Body Problem,” Broadway legend and Tony Award winner David Alan Grier guest stars as Arthur Greene Jr., the meticulous owner of one of New York’s most historic and elite funeral homes. But when Greene’s conspiracy-minded nephew suddenly disappears, Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) suspects that the tightly run family business may be harboring more secrets than caskets. Collider is thrilled to bring our readers an exclusive first look at the episode, which airs this Thursday, April 10, at 10. PM ET on CBS.
In our sneak peek, Elsbeth meets with Arthur at the funeral home and questions him about his nephew’s behavior. But it’s fair to say the funeral owner is involved in burying more than just bodies, as he clams up during her questioning. How suspicious. Also guest-starring is Ethan Slater (Wicked, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical) as Officer Chandler, a by-the-book new recruit with plenty to say. He joins Elsbeth on her latest investigation as the case surrounding the missing nephew twists and turns through the ornate halls of Greene’s funeral home, where Elsbeth suspects not every ceremony ends with closure.

Yes, you should. In fact, you could start by watching this episode on Thursday. Carrie Preston remains one of the most magnetic and compelling presences on network television and always brings her A-game. This was something Collider’s Arezou Amin echoed in her 8/10 review of the series, as she hailed the show’s ability to balance serious crimes with a light touch. She wrote:
“When a series sets itself up with both time-sensitive stakes and premise, as it goes on, the challenge becomes about heightening those stakes enough to not feel contrived and to keep the audience invested in said premise. Elsbeth remains a ray of sunshine that continues to shine brightly in the first episode and will hopefully continue to do so in the rest of the season.”
