Will attempted to replace Angie with Marion in Will Trent season 3, but he was unsuccessful, as his latest love interest likely won’t return in season 4. The ABC police procedural series follows Ramón Rodríguez’s Will Trent, a GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) agent with a special set of skills that help him be the best in his field. Since the story primarily centers around Will, his and Angie’s on-and-off romance has been one of Will Trent‘s through lines. However, their love story (and Will and Marion’s) is evidently over, based on information about season 4.
Will and Angie’s relationship in Will Trent has been turbulent, to say the least. The two characters met when they were kids in the foster system. For many years, they were all that each other had. To this day, no one knows Will and Angie better than they know each other. Unfortunately, their bond was built on trauma, resulting in a toxic romance that always ends in disaster. Will’s arrest of Angie was the final straw. Afterward, they tried to form connections with other people, and Angie was certainly more successful than Will, given their relationship statuses heading into season 4.
Ramón Rodriguez Teases A Potential New Love For Will In Will Trent Season 4
Season 4 Could Introduce A New Book Character
“We’re about to begin these serious conversations. There were some pretty serious cliffhangers at the end of season 3, where we find out Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen) is pregnant, and Will is definitely not the father, so that’s gonna be something to explore. Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn), who is a maternal figure for Will, is in the hospital bed. We just discovered his dad, [Sheriff Caleb Roussard], which we don’t know too much about, so I’d want to know more about the character and what happened with the mom. There’s just so many questions that we will get to explore — I mean, is there new love in Will’s life?”
Angie is having a baby with Seth in Will Trent season 4, while Will remains single. Since Angie is moving on, it’s time for Will to do the same. The good news is that Will’s luck should turn around in season 4. According to Rodríguez, Will may be getting a new girlfriend in the upcoming episodes (spoiler alert for minor spoilers from Karin Slaughter’s Will Trent book series in the next paragraph).
Rodriguez’s New Tease Suggests Marion’s Role In Will Trent Is Officially Done
Will & Marion Broke Up In Season 3
With Rodríguez’s suggestion that Will could find another romantic partner in season 4, it seems as though Gina Rodriguez’s Will Trent character, Marion, is gone for good. Marion, an ADA, first appeared in the season 3 premiere. She helped Will on a case, and sparks flew between them, resulting in Will asking Marion on a date a few episodes later.
Sadly, Will and Marion’s romance in Will Trent season 3 was brief. In episode 12, the two characters decided to take a break in the wake of a tragedy that left Will in shambles (and unable to be in a relationship with anyone). Marion hasn’t been seen since then. Taking into account what we know about season 4, though, Will and Marion’s “break” will likely be permanent.
Why Will & Marion’s Romance Never Really Worked In Will Trent Season 3
Will Was Still Mourning His Relationship With Angie
Will rushed into his relationship with Marion far before he was ready to be with anyone. He had just arrested Angie at the end of Will Trent season 2, and six months wasn’t enough time for Will to process the fact that the future he imagined for himself and Angie wouldn’t come to fruition. Then, tragedy struck in season 3, episode 11, when Will accidentally shot and killed a young teenager. Essentially, he was a mess. Hopefully, the Will Trent main character will be fully healed by the time his next love interest walks into his life.
