Of the three shows that make up the One Chicago franchise, Chicago Med arguably had the best ending last season. Season 10 ended on a massive cliffhanger in an unexpected bait-and-switch that left us guessing who Hannah’s (Jessy Schram) Baby Daddy is. We’re all dying to know the answer, and soon the puzzle pieces will fall into place with Season 11 scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, October 1. Production for the new season is now underway, as confirmed by star Schram in a social media post. The post, which has sent the fandom buzzing, included a behind-the-scenes selfie featuring actors Luke Mitchell and Steven Weber, who play either of Hannah’s potential baby daddies, Mitch Ripley and Dean Archer.
“And now, back to work we go,” Schram captioned the photo on her story, which was later reposted by the official One Chicago Instagram account with the teasing caption, “Things are happening over at Chicago Med.” It definitely exploits the unfolding enigma between the trio, and the fandom reacted accordingly, taking to the comments to sound off on their preference for who should own the bun in Hannah’s oven. Team Archer argues that the co-head of the ED’s stable character makes him the perfect choice for Hannah, who we saw grow weary of constantly being the bigger person in her relationship with Mitch, which culminated in their break-up.
While Archer and Hannah Asher have developed a great friendship, the show hasn’t seen them acting on whatever hidden feelings they might have. However, one theory suggests that perhaps they did go there on the night she brought him dinner while he was grieving. This argument is supported by the fact that Hannah chose to contact him first and not Mitch, right after finding out about the pregnancy in the final moments of the finale. Weber is also on Dean’s team, advising that “you should put your money on Dean,” in a recent interview. Should it indeed turn out to be Dean, it would be a devastating blow to Mitch Ripley, who has been trying hard to get back with Hannah following his epiphany down in the well.
Lenox Is Back For ‘Chicago Med’ Season 11
The other BTS photo accompanying the post featured Dr. Lenox (Sarah Ramos) and Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt), and it appears to be yet another intentional pairing. The season finale ended on a devastating note for Lenox, whose worst nightmare came true after she tested positive for the Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker disease, the genetic disease that killed her mother. The prognosis is bad, and it led the audience to suspect that perhaps it marked the last time the show would feature Lenox, with chances including that the next season could inform us of her grim fate off-screen.
However, Ramos showing up for the table read and sitting with Dr. Charles could be hinting at a bright future for her, no matter how brief. Given his expertise as a psychiatrist and warm disposition, he is the perfect person to lead Lenox through this difficult period and help her make the best of what might or might not be her final days. Putting into perspective where these arcs could all go next season, showrunner Allen MacDonald explained:
“I can say that yes, we’re going to hopefully have some original cast members come back. I can say that I want to continue exploring the relationship between Anna and Charles. I can say Lenox is going to go down a different path next season that will be surprising and possibly even cathartic for her and the audience. And I can say that when it is finally revealed who the father of Hannah’s baby is, those two are going to have to really work it out how they’re going to move forward.”
