Elsbeth Season 3: Full Cast Update Reveals Shocking Departures & Confirmed Returns

CBS’ big hit TV show Elsbeth is returning for a third season in the fall, but unfortunately, there will be some cast changes happening.

Elsbeth is actually known for having a big rotating cast of guest stars, so it’s not that surprising that many of them won’t be returning. However, there are some stars who WON’T be returning that may surprise you if you haven’t kept up with the show.

Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni – Returning!

There can be no Elsbeth without Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni! She’ll definitely be back for season two.

Wendell Pierce as Captain C.W. Wagner – Returning!

Wendell Pierce will seemingly be back as Captain C.W. Wagner.

He posted Elsbeth‘s renewal news on his personal Instagram account and teased the new season along with the message.

It read, “Elsbeth returning for season 3!”

He added, “WHAT A FINALE!!! Watch on Paramount+. Coming back even stronger season 3.”

This is leading fans to believe he’ll be back in a full time capacity as Captain Wagner in the show’s third season.

Carra Patterson as Officer Kaya Blanke – Exiting as Series Regular!

Carra Patterson will not be back in a series regular capacity as Officer Kaya Blanke!

“My character, Kaya Blanke, is embarking on a new adventure as the story continues to unfold, and I am excited to do the same,” Carra told Deadline. “But we will see Kaya again – fans will find out what she’s been up to in her new role as ‘Detective’ next season when I come back to guest star and play with Carrie and Wendell. I am beyond grateful to the cast, crew, and producers, and of course, the fans, for all the love and support.”

Executive producer Jonathan Tolins added, “Kaya just turned out to be this wonderful partner for Elsbeth, and that relationship was one that we all love so much, and we love Carra. We’re excited that the character got her promotion and achieved that dream. She’s not leaving the world of the show. She’s just not going to be with us every day. I don’t want to make too much of the change.”

Sullivan Jones as Dr. Cameron Clayden – Presumably Exiting

As Kaya’s roommate and love interest, we’re making an educated guess that Sullivan Jones might not be featured in season three…considering Carra‘s exiting in a full time capacity.

CBS has not made this official, and it’s possible he pops in when she returns as a guest star as well, but fan chatter suggests he might not be around long term on Elsbeth!

Michael Emerson as Judge Milton Crawford – Exiting

Carrie Preston‘s husband Michael Emerson had a guest stint on the show, playing Judge Milton Crawford.

However, his character was killed in season 2, episode 18.

About his time on the show, Michael told TVInsider, “I’ll remember it as a happy experience, one that terrified me a bit at the beginning to be thrown into a big role, a leading role without having time to work it up, to just kind of hit the ground running and hope that I find character while I’m running. But I did. I had enough episodes to settle down into it and get confident and comfortable inside the skin of this character to have found this character’s voice and this character’s attitudes, this character’s sense of humor. All of that makes me way more comfortable. And then I begin to have more fun.”

Ben Levi Ross as Teddy – Presumably Returning!

We got to meet Elsbeth’s son Teddy in season two, and he returned in several episodes. Ben Levi Ross played the role, and we can’t imagine why he wouldn’t pop in here or there.

CBS hasn’t confirmed this yet, but fans are thinking he’ll likely be back in some capacity.
