The Rookie is heading overseas, and among the characters traveling is one who doesn’t seem like they belong with the group. ABC’s police procedural will kick off its eighth season in Prague, Czech Republic. Some of the show’s cast members were spotted filming scenes in the European city, and Nathan Fillion himself even confirmed that The Rookie season 8 begins in Prague.
It’s unclear why exactly the Rookie characters are in Europe. We can only go off context clues and what we know from the season 7 finale, which featured Monica Stevens’ return. Outside of that, though, not much is known about the season 8 premiere. But out of everyone who was seen in Prague, one character’s presence in the city is the most befuddling.

The Rookie cast members who were in Prague are Fillion (John Nolan), Bridget Regan (Monica), Mekia Cox (Nyla Harper), Felix Solis (Matt Garza), and Jenna Dewan (Bailey Nune). Their involvement in the European scenes was spoiled via set videos taken by The Rookie fans. However, Dewan also confirmed it by posting pictures and videos of herself in Prague on her Instagram.
After The Rookie season 7 ended with the reveal that Monica had made a deal for her immunity, it’s clear that she and the others are in Prague because of her agreement with the government. Perhaps Monica has intel on wanted criminals who are hiding in Prague. Whatever the case, fans must wait until The Rookie season 8 to learn more.

While one can infer why Nolan, Harper, Garza, and Monica are in Europe during the season 8 premiere of The Rookie, it’s unclear why Bailey tagged along. She spends most of her time working as a firefighter/EMT in LA. So, why would the government need Bailey in Prague on what seems to be a top-secret mission?
While Bailey’s a firefighter/EMT for the LAFD, she’s also a lieutenant reserve in the Army National Guard. As such, she is sometimes pulled away on assignment. Maybe Bailey’s status as a lieutenant is what brings her to Prague alongside the Rookie villain and law enforcement officers. It would be quite a coincidence, but The Rookie isn’t exactly known for its authenticity.
The Rookie season 8, which will consist of 18 episodes, is set to premiere in early 2026.
