“I would’ve loved some more scenes”: Emilia Clarke’s Only Game of Thrones Regret Is Valid, and ‘The Winds of Winter’ Should Solve That

Like many fans, Emilia Clarke also wanted a different version of Game of Thrones—one with more scenes between Daenerys Targaryen and some key characters.

George R.R. Martin’s The Winds of Winter is nowhere near finished, but there is one thing that fans can look forward to based on Emilia Clarke’s comment on the final season of Game of Thrones. It is universal knowledge that Season 8 ended on a depressing note, but we are hoping that the upcoming sixth novel will do some major damage repairs.

The actress, who portrayed Daenerys Targaryen in the show, remained unfazed by her character’s villain transformation; however, she wished to have shared more quiet moments with her best friend as well as confrontations with her enemy.

Emilia Clarke on the changes she wanted in Game of Thrones Season 8

Emilia Clarke spoke with The New Yorker and revealed what she would have wanted to change in Game of Thrones Season 8 if given the chance. While she claimed she could only speak for her character, the actress did not wish for massive changes but for more meaningful interactions.

I would’ve loved some more scenes with me and Missandei. I would’ve loved some more scenes with me and Cersei. I would’ve loved some more scenes between Grey Worm and Missandei. I would’ve loved to see a bit more between Cersei.

Nathalie Emmanuel’s Missandei perished in the fourth episode of Season 8 after she was captured and beheaded by The Mountain at the behest of Cersei Lannister. The character has been Daenerys’ loyal advisor since the earlier seasons, and it’s a shame that she did not survive.

The mother of dragons and Cersei also had a brief meeting after the former’s arrival at King’s Landing. Like Clarke, many fans were disappointed that their interaction did not exactly live up to the hype that the show established for several seasons.

On another note, we’re not exactly sure if the audience wants more scenes between Grey Worm and Missandei since both of them are only minor characters, but if their conversation would leave a profound impact on the story, then there’s no reason why we should not have it.

The 38-year-old actress refused to criticize the show as she believed she was not in the position to do so, especially after David Benioff and Dan Weiss “have written eight seasons’ worth of wonderful stuff.” Clarke wasn’t surprised at all by her character’s villainous turn as she said Daenerys already exhibited symptoms of madness from the beginning.

The Winds of Winter can hopefully grant Emilia Clarke’s wish

As far as The Winds of Winter is concerned, Clarke’s wish could still happen. George R.R. Martin is still writing the book, and if it’s any consolation, fans can anticipate a better ending in the novel than what they have seen on television.

Unfortunately, we still do not have any positive news on the progress of Martin’s sixth novel in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. He has been writing it for more than a decade, and we’re not sure how long we have to wait until it is finished.
