Emilia Clarke confessed to not enjoying her time on the set of this famed action franchise directed by a filmmaker she worked with in HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Emilia Clarke’s career has been a tumultuous ride through the years. From her iconic performance in the Game of Thrones franchise to starring in multiple movie deals in between, she’s had a very busy schedule. While she loved some of these projects, one stuck out like a sore thumb: Terminator: Genisys.

The actress admitted she did not have a good time working on this film, a fact that was reflected in its critical reviews. Sure, it earned a decent profit at the box office, but the fans’ reactions were brutal. It’s sad to imagine that behind this project was the same director who helmed some of the best episodes from Game of Thrones.
Emilia Clarke didn’t enjoy working on Alan Taylor’s Terminator: Genisys
The poor reception of Alan Taylor’s Terminator: Genisys killed every possibility of producing sequels, and this was a major relief for Emilia Clarke. The actress starred as Sarah Connor in the 2015 reboot of James Cameron’s $2 billion worth of franchise, and she admitted to not having a swell time on the set of the film in her interview with Vanity Fair.
The actress remarked how the director was badly “eaten and chewed up” in the movie, and she lamented how Taylor was not able to rise above the troubles that faced them. “He was not the director I remembered. He didn’t have a good time. No one had a good time,” Clarke told the outlet.
Taylor explained his situation in his conversation with The Hollywood Reporter. He was offered the project with the promise of working with Arnold Schwarzenegger and the chance to be involved in the legacy of the Terminator franchise. He was warned by his partner at the time, but the prospects were too tempting to decline.

When the picture bombed critically, he admitted he “lost the will to make movies.” The backlash took a toll on him, and it made him rethink his career and life decisions. “I lost the will to live as a director. I’m not blaming any person for that. The process was not good for me,” he revealed to the outlet.
The failure of Terminator: Genisys affected both Taylor and Clarke in ways they never expected. The director had to find his footing again and rediscover his passion for making films, while the actress had to juggle her work on Game of Thrones with other projects she was involved with at the time.
Alan Taylor’s exemplary work on Game of Thrones

While Terminator: Genisys surely changed how fans looked at Taylor’s directing flair, it’s still worth noting that he worked on some of the most iconic episodes in Game of Thrones and even House of the Dragon, so he deserves some credit.
He was the one who supervised the death scene of Ned Stark in Season 1’s Baelor and the nerve-wracking scene involving the White Walkers in Season 2’s Valar Morghulis. Of course, we cannot forget that he was also involved in the prequel series. Taylor directed the acclaimed chapter, The Red Dragon and the Gold, which saw the Battle at Rook’s Rest and the painful deaths of Rhaenys and Meleys.
