Emmy-winning actor Jim Parsons is known to be a massive tennis fan.
Jim Parsons‘ passion for the sport of tennis is certainly still alive and well!
A lifelong fan of tennis, the Big Bang Theory alum was spotted attending day ten of the U.S. Open in New York City on Tuesday, Sept. 2, where he was accompanied by his husband, Todd Spiewak, as they watched a match at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Parsons—a lifelong fan of tennis—appeared to be all smiles while attending Tuesday’s event, as cameras caught the TV star looking joyful as ever from his spot in the crowd.
The Emmy-winning actor, known for playing Sheldon Cooper on the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory, was even dressed like a true tennis fan, wearing a sweatshirt with the Prince Tennis logo on the front.
Also during the match, Parsons, 52, was photographed with a very focused expression on his face as he looked intently toward the court. Spiewak, 48—whom the actor has been married to since 2017—appeared to be equally as engrossed in the match as his husband.
Jim Parsons’ Well-Documented Passion for Tennis
Parsons’ affinity with tennis is not a new development, as he has long been vocal about his love for the sport. He even recently referred to himself as a self-proclaimed “tennis fanatic” while sharing an Instagram tribute to tennis pro Eugenie “Genie” Bouchard, with whom the actor has developed an unlikely friendship with over the years.
Sharing a photo of them posing together at Wimbledon in 2014 to commemorate Bouchard’s last match before retiring, Parsons recalled writing emails back and forth with Bouchard—a fan of The Big Bang Theory—after they were first connected by their managers over 10 years ago.
“I was VERY nervous about writing Genie back then,” Parsons admitted in the caption of his post, shared on July 28. “I have such an admiration for elite athletes and so much affection for tennis players in particular, and their whole existence has an aura of mystery to me – a man who never really played ANY sport and has yet to pick up a tennis racket as an adult.”
Nonetheless, Parsons and his husband were ultimately able to travel to London for Wimbledon in 2014, where they got to watch Bouchard play and meet her and her family—and the rest was history.
“Congratulations on all you’ve accomplished,” the Young Sheldon alum wrote to the former tennis pro in the post. “Thank you – and your whole family – for being so inclusive to us groupies for two weeks in Wimbledon; I knew at the time it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience I was having and that realization actually only grows MORE evident with every year and every major tennis tournament that passes.”
