Chicago Med Renewed for Season 11 — NBC Confirms Show’s Future Amid Fan Fears

It is an unwritten rule that every network needs to have a medical series in its weekly schedule. For the last decade, Chicago Med has been one of the most popular representatives of this genre, but after NBC granted a Season 2 renewal for St. Denis Medical and said nothing about the One Chicago shows, fans were understandably worried about the future of their favorite shows. But today, the matter has finally been resolved: Chicago Med is returning for Season 11.

The renewal will allow Chicago Med to reach a milestone: the 200-episode mark, which not many shows achieve these days. There’s still a lot to happen in the series, though, and showrunner Allen MacDonald (CSI) has already been pretty clear about how Season 10 will end. According to the writer and producer, Chicago Med will send Season 10 off with “big shocks” and “lasting ripple effects.” MacDonald had also previously joked that it would be “a very long summer” for fans of the series.

On the final stretch for the season finale, Chicago Med still has almost one month ahead of it, and for now fans have been happy with game-changing events such as Ripley (Luke Mitchell) and Ashley (Jessy Schram) getting together one last time. Ripley returned to Gaffney Medical Center after a traumatic loss that prompted his suspension. According to Deadline, now it’s not the time to get too attached to any character, though, because there will be budget cuts and some cast members might get cut, as already happened in Chicago Fire.

It’s A Good Time To Be A Medical Show Fan

Not that fans of medical shows are ever left without new characters to connect with and root for, but this year in particular has been an excellent one for the genre. Grey’s Anatomy is still drawing massive viewership numbers, both on network television and on streaming platforms. Not by chance, the show has already been renewed for Season 22 and the creative team behind the show has already stated several times that there is no end in sight to the medical drama.

Additionally, Max threw its hat in the procedural ring by debuting the new hit series The Pitt, which stars ER’s alum Noah Wyle (Falling Skies) and has just wrapped its first season. The show is a unique take on the medical series world, set in real time and following the 15-hour shift of doctors and nurses inside the emergency room of an underfunded and understaffed hospital in Pittsburgh. The streaming-exclusive series has already been renewed for Season 2 and a release window for the new episodes has already been set.

NBC airs new episodes of Chicago Med on Wednesdays. You can stream all episodes on Peacock.
