Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage actor Raegan Revord has confirmed they are nonbinary, after they quietly came out on social media earlier this year.
Revord, 17, made the affirmation while on a press tour promoting their debut novel Rules for Fake Girlfriends, a globetrotting queer romantic comedy. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Revord reflected on their childhood experiences on the sets of The Big Bang Theory spinoffs before opening up about what LGBTQ+ representation means to them.
“It’s so cool because growing up, whenever I would see a celebrity or whoever come out as non-binary or queer or anything, I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is so cool. Like, I see myself in you,’” Revord told ET. “And now it’s so crazy to have that experience where I’m now that person. There might be a kid somewhere who’s like, ‘Oh my god, I see myself in you,’ and that’s such an insane thing to think, because I was in that kid’s shoes at some point in my life.”
Some eagle-eyed Georgie & Mandy fans were already in the know about Revord’s identity, however. The actor pulled a semi-stealth “coming out” back in January, revealing that they had also been streaming anonymously as “SettingSunset” on Twitch, where they play Minecraft and a variety of other video games. Under their streaming alias, Revord had already been using they/them pronouns for some time, and are now doing so under their real name as well.
Revord has played Missy Cooper, the twin sister of Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage née Jim Parsons), since 2017, becoming a guest star on Georgie & Mandy’s first season last year following Young Sheldon’s cancellation. In their interview with ET, Revord said they would always have a special place in their heart for the role.
“I love her so much, especially because I view her very much like nine-year-old me […] I’m very protective of Missy,” Revord told ET. “I love her to death. And she is such a fun character to play, and I know her so well. So I will always love to return to Missy.”
