Jack (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) landed back in Salem recently on Days of Our Lives. But the duo’s latest trip back home marked the latest chapter of their ongoing romance. In an interview with Swooon, Ashford and Reeves looked back on their decades of working together and on-screen relationship, as well as keeping characters consistent, no matter how they’re written.
Reeves recalled:
I remember a writer came in, and they were like, ‘We’re killing off Jack,’ and I was like, ‘What?’ I mean, we were all so shocked by that and then we were glad because the next writer came in and he came back to life. And I was like, ‘You are not killing him again because I am not going to cry over this grave any more.’
Ashford added:
And it gets old. And it happens more with the guys more that the women; it’s just the vicissitudes of this business. I know with Stephen [Nichols, Steve] and myself and couple of others—Bo [Peter Reckell], probably—we’ve had to say, ‘We’re the guys, we go off, and we pursue some other star or go here or there.’ ‘You couldn’t stick around?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I remember that. I remember those years.’ We had to play it.
