Early episodes of NCIS: Origins already reintroduced characters like Mike Franks and Jackson Gibbs, who were vital to Gibbs’ personal development but who have since passed. However, the NCIS: Origins season 1 finale also introduced a fundamental character when Diane appeared on-screen. Diane’s appearance is nice, but also a bittersweet reminder of what is to come.
NCIS: Origins Season 2 Will Likely Highlight Diane’s Early Romance With Gibbs
Following Diane’s brief appearance in the season 1 finale as Gibbs’ realtor, NCIS: Origins season 2 will likely highlight Gibbs and Diane’s early romance. From the moment they met, Diane and Gibbs had instant chemistry, with Diane even immediately complimenting Gibbs’ eyes. Their connection will likely be built upon sooner rather than later to align with NCIS canon.
From NCIS, we know that Diane is Gibbs’ second wife after Shannon, and that they made a great pair, but that their relationship was short-lived. Their relationship took place sometime in the early 1990s. As a result, it makes sense that season 2 would be the couple’s chance to shine and explore their relationship.
Seeing Young Diane And Gibbs Together Would Make Her Death So Much Worse
Diane and Gibbs’ relationship in NCIS: Origins will likely be very sweet. Gibbs is still learning how to be vulnerable following the loss of Shannon and Kelly. This vulnerability will add a delicate detail to their relationship as the pair learn to work together to overcome their issues. However, this also paints a dark picture for the future.
While Diane and Gibbs’ romantic relationship did not last very long, the two remained good friends throughout NCIS. This friendship was nice, but, unfortunately, it was also the catalyst behind Diane’s untimely death. In NCIS season 12, Sergei Mishnev killed Diane as a way to get back at Gibbs for having a part in his half-brother Ari’s death.
The circumstances behind Diane’s death will make any scene with her in NCIS: Origins a bit sadder. She was a great character in NCIS, and she and Gibbs always got along well. Seeing her character’s beginnings will be nice, but they will also act as a reminder of Sergei’s act of cruelness 23 years later in NCIS season 12.
