8 Will Trent Characters Too Good to Leave Behind — Why They Belong in Season 4

Numerous fleeting characters have come and gone over the course of Will Trent‘s three seasons and 41 episodes, but some of them deserve to return for a second episode. Even if a handful of them are dead, that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth bringing back. In fact, Will Trent season 4 would benefit from the return of ghosts from Will’s past.

Following the Will Trent season 3 finale, the main characters will be reeling from the events of the last episode. The hour concluded with Amanda Wagner and Michael Ormewood’s lives hanging in the balance. Even if they survive, they and the others will still face obstacles when Will Trent season 4 premieres, and perhaps some past characters can help move their storylines along.

Ava Green

Played By Julia Chan

With Angie preparing to have a baby with Seth, Will must move on from her in Will Trent season 4. He can’t keep chasing her, as it would only lead to even more heartbreak for them both. While Will should definitely take some time to be single (and attend some much-needed therapy), a little fling with someone from his past wouldn’t hurt.

Some might not remember her, but Julia Can’s Ava Green served as a potential love interest for Will in Will Trent season 1, episode 5. At first, she was a suspect in a case that Will and Faith were working on. It was later revealed that the heist crew she was working for forced her into helping them, clearing her name.

It was a good thing Ava was innocent since she and Will had tremendous chemistry. However, the case wasn’t the only thing that complicated their romance — Will and Angie were still a thing, despite being in the middle of a fight. As such, Will turned Ava down when she asked him out. But it’s a different story now.

Maybe Ava can return in Will Trent season 4, and she and Will can explore their connection. They could reunite over a case and give their relationship a shot. Ava shouldn’t be Will’s endgame in Will Trent, though, as that spot is reserved for someone from the books who we haven’t met yet. That doesn’t mean Will and Ava can’t have a good time.

Elijah Buckley

Played By Darius Jordan Lee

Darius Jordan Lee as Elijah in Will Trent season 3, episode 10

Will isn’t the only Will Trent main character who deserves love in his life. If truth be told, Faith deserves it more than anyone in the series. In season 3, episode 10, Faith met Elijah Buckley. Elijah was a victim’s dance instructor on a case that Faith and Will were working on, and his and Faith’s chemistry was palpable from the start.

The scene featuring Faith and Elijah dancing was remarkable and proved how great the two of them could be together. They felt it too and agreed to go on a date. Unfortunately, Elijah hasn’t been seen since Will Trent season 3, episode 10. His and Faith’s status as a couple is unknown, and the show must clear that up in season 4.

Faith has yet to have a love interest that has been concrete and stuck around for more than a few episodes. So, Elijah returning as a recurring character in Will Trent season 4 would be a nice change of pace. Faith and Elijah’s relationship just has too much potential for the writers to toss him to the side after only one episode.

Ariana Madix

Played By Ariana Madix

This might be a long shot, but it would be fun to see Ariana Madix reprise her Will Trent role (as a fictionalized version of herself) in season 4. She and Ormewood had great chemistry, after all. They shouldn’t enter a long-term relationship, though, seeing as Madix’s schedule in and outside the show is too busy for her to become a recurring character.

Nevertheless, Madix’s character could return to Atlanta for one more Will Trent episode. Perhaps she’s briefly in town for one reason or another, and she needs Ormewood’s protection again, although she can easily take care of herself. Whatever the case, Madix’s performance in Will Trent season 3, episode 8 was surprising, and seeing her character with Ormewood again would be a delight.

Cricket Dawson

Played By Susan Kelechi Watson

Yes, Susan Kelechi Watson’s Cricket Dawson died in Will Trent season 2, episode 1. However, she could still make an appearance in season 4, in either a flashback or a hallucination sequence. It’s no secret that Will’s mental health isn’t the most stable after season 3. Consequently, he will likely spend most of season 4 working on bettering himself.

Will’s upcoming arc will undoubtedly feature some setbacks, though. Through these obstacles, Will could start seeing and interacting with deceased people from his past, including Cricket. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that Will has had hallucinations, after all.

Will didn’t know Cricket for very long, but she still had an impact on him. They could have been a great couple, as Will seemed to genuinely like her. However, when Cricket died in front of him, Will was left with yet another trauma to work through. Given these circumstances, it wouldn’t be surprising if Will were to hallucinate Cricket in season 4.

Whitney McAdams

Played By Briyana Guadalupe

Speaking of dead characters whom Will has hallucinated, Briyana Guadalupe’s Whitney McAdams should also return in Will Trent season 4 after her death in season 3, episode 10. At first, Whitney was a pain in Will’s side (and she certainly didn’t present herself as the most likable character). As time went on, though, Will developed a special bond with Whitney.

The two made for a dynamic duo in her one episode of the ABC cop show. It was fun to watch them bicker one moment and then share a heart-to-heart the next. Similar to Watson’s Cricket, Guadalupe could reprise her Will Trent season 3 role in season 4 while Will is working through complicated feelings. She could easily give him some much-needed tough love.

Alonso St. James

Played By Jason Alan Carvell

Assuming that Amanda survives after the Will Trent season 3 finale left her life in peril, she has also earned herself a love interest. Thankfully, the police procedural series already has the perfect person for Amanda. In season 3, episode 15, Amanda and Evelyn checked into a luxury resort, where they had to put their investigation on hold to investigate a murder.

Amanda also met Alonso, played by Jason Alan Carvell, and the two spent the night together. Afterward, Amanda suspected him of being involved in the case mentioned above, but that misunderstanding was swiftly cleared up. At the end of the hour, Amanda and Alonso shared a goodbye kiss, and he asked her to call him.

We haven’t seen or heard about Alonso since Will Trent season 3, episode 15. So, when the ABC series returns, so could Alonso (but only if Amanda survives, and she very likely will). Amanda could use some stable romance in her life, and frankly, Will Trent would greatly benefit from focusing on a relationship that doesn’t involve Will or Angie.

Theo Davis

Played By Callan Barry

Callan Barry as Theo in Will Trent season 1, episode 10

We know that Will wants to have kids someday. He always thought that the future he dreamed of for himself would include Angie, but after learning that she was pregnant at the end of Will Trent season 3, that’s no longer possible. While Will isn’t ready for kids of his own, he has made connections with a couple over the seasons, including Theo.

Will met Theo while investigating a shooting at a trailer park, where the little boy had been abandoned, in Will Trent season 1, episode 10. Theo was ultimately returned to his mother, meaning Will had to say a tearful goodbye to him. The protagonist was obviously fond of Theo, and it would be heartwarming to see the two reunite in season 4.

Finn Lambert

Played By Laila Pruitt

Finn might not have been as young as Theo, but she was young enough for Will to grow protective over her in Will Trent season 3, episode 13. She was one of those who belonged to the cult that Will infiltrated. Although she had certainly been brainwashed, Will wanted to help Finn, and he managed to get through to her by the hour’s end.

It’s unclear what happened to Finn after the GBI shut the cult down. However, Laila Pruitt could reprise her role as Finn in the upcoming episodes, updating viewers on her whereabouts and continuing to strengthen her father/daughter bond with Will. Only time will tell if Finn or any of the other aforementioned one-off characters will appear in Will Trent season 4, though.
