Part of ABC’s Will Trent’s appeal is how well the series utilizes its cast. The main cast has not changed much since Will Trent Season 1, allowing the cast to become like a family on and off screen.
Kevin Daniels, who has recurred as Det. Franklin Wilks has been promoted to a series regular in Will Trent Season 4.
While he’s had a steady presence since the series began, viewers will get to know Franklin better in the upcoming season.
We’ve compiled a list of ways Will Trent could incorporate Franklin now that he’s one of the gang.
Introduce His Backstory and Family
Now that Franklin will appear in every episode, we need to learn more about him.
He joked a few times about dating, but it was challenging to know if he was being serious.
While the series does not need to dump all the details immediately, let’s learn what inspired Franklin to become an Atlanta detective.
It would be interesting to see if he has a mentor he still communicates with, and if he used any of those skills when mentoring Angie or Faith, after she shot a cop.
While we don’t see most of the team’s families regularly, knowing them helps us build a deeper understanding of the main characters, so I hope we learn these intricacies within the first few episodes of the new season.
Let Franklin Lead a Case
The team dynamics may shift at the beginning of Will Trent Season 4, with Amanda and Ormewood’s lives in danger and Angie being pregnant.
Therefore, it would be entertaining for Franklin to lead a case, work with Captain Heller, and possibly team up with Faith and Will.
He could also be used as the mediator that assists in the APD and the GBI working together even more, something they did frequently in Will Trent Season 3.
We don’t know how long Amanda will be out, but we love it when both teams work together.
Almost everyone has had a case that’s triggered them. For Amanda and Angie, it’s usually sexual violence.
Will’s cases usually deal with abducted children, while the ones that affect Ormewood often have military undertones.
The series has not delved into Franklin’s past much, so we don’t know what will affect him, but I suspect it may have something to do with alcohol or addiction, since he became a sponsor.
I’m intrigued to watch how he’ll interact with suspects and help those who need a second chance.
Let’s See Franklin in Action as an AA Sponsor
Part of Franklin’s purpose on Will Trent has been as Angie’s AA sponsor. While we adore their friendship and would love to know more about it, we want more right now.
Angie will need Franklin with her mother’s recent death and becoming pregnant, and he’s one of the few people to know the skeletons in her closet.
But we want them to delve into Franklin’s healing capabilities since he’s been helping Angie for years.
Let’s see Franklin in action at an AA meeting with some reluctant teens or young adults who were forced into attending meetings.
I suspect he may have dealt with some demons himself, and can’t wait to see him counsel some newbies. I bet he would make a great sponsor.
It could coincide with a case, or it could be something he chose to do to continue helping others.
His Bigger Role Hints at Medical Emergencies for Angie or Ormewood
Franklin has appeared since Will Trent began, so adding him suggests it’s storyline dictated.
