‘SWAT’ Spin-Off Series ‘Exiles’ Adds 2 Familiar Faces From the Original Series

Two of S.W.A.T.’s original stars are officially returning for the highly anticipated Exiles spin-off. News broke this afternoon that both original S.W.A.T. veterans, Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit, will return in guest roles as Sergeant David ‘Deacon’ Kay and Commander Robert Hicks in the upcoming Exiles spin-off. Shemar Moore is also reprising his signature role as Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson in the show, which is being eyed for a 10-episode first season by Sony Pictures Television.

S.W.A.T. Exiles will follow Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson (Moore) as he’s pulled out of his forced retirement to lead a last chance unit consisting of untested, unpredictable young recruits. As he navigates an increasingly difficult generational divide, he learns that it falls to him to save the program that made him who he is. This logline for the new series allows for original stars like Harrington and Esprit to return, but it also allows for S.W.A.T. Exiles to keep things fresh with new cast members.

Production on S.W.A.T. Exiles is set to begin later this month in Los Angeles, with the original S.W.A.T. filming crew coming back to work on the spin-off series — it will certainly be an emotional reunion for Moore and other returning stars. Jason Ning has been tapped as showrunner and executive producer of the spin-off series, along with Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty, who are also executive producing via their Original Film banner. Shemar Moore has even earned a producing credit on the show, as well as James Scurra and Jon Cowan.

Is ‘S.W.A.T.’ on Streaming?

The first seven seasons of S.W.A.T. are currently streaming on Netflix, and the streamer has confirmed that the eighth season will begin streaming on the platform on September 15. Netflix’s large consumer base has helped S.W.A.T. gain popularity since it arrived on the streamer. The first four seasons of S.W.A.T. are also streaming for free both on Pluto TV and Tubi, and the eighth and final season of S.W.A.T. is streaming exclusively on Paramount+. Previously, seasons of the hit drama consisted of more than 20 episodes, so the jump down to 10 will certainly take fans time to get used to.
