The Young and the Restless Teases Jill Abbott’s Triumphant Return This Fall

One of The Young and the Restless’ most beloved characters is returning this fall in an unmissable storyline.

CBS recently announced the fall season premiere date for their daytime lineup. During which they teased the highly anticipated return of Jill Abbott with Jess Walton reprising her role.

Head-writer and executive producer Josh Griffith was interviewed by TV Insider where he discussed all of the upcoming storylines for the fall season, including the return of Jill.

Viewers last saw Jill via video call. The showrunner explained “The way we last left Billy and Jill was he said, ‘If you take Chancellor away from me, there’s no coming back for me.’

Jill’s Return to Genoa City

But viewers won’t have to wait long for Jill to actually make her way back to Genoa City. Griffith explained, “She’s going to come back to town trying to repair that anger and pain that Billy’s (Jason Thompson) feeling, and that’s going to be multiplied by the fact that she sort of sees Cane (Billy Flynn) as the surrogate son that Billy could never be.”

Family Tension

Cane originally came to town pretending to be Jill’s son, Phillip Chancellor III. During this time they created a tight and unbreakable bond, that despite the truth coming out, was never truly broken.

Griffith explained that Jill’s relationship and connection with Cane is going to continue to cause tension for Billy. “She has seen that Cane has done what she’s always wanted Billy to do, and he’s been unable, so that’s just going to feed into Billy’s own insecurity and anger.”

Who is Jill Abbott?

Jill is an original member of the cast, joining the show in 1973 with Brenda Dickson originating the role. Since then the role was portrayed by multiple actresses, including Deborah Adair and Melinda O. Fee before Jess Walton assumed the role and made it her own in 1987.

Jill was known for her decades long battle with Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper), her many romantic relationships, including with John Abbott. She has two children, Philip Chancellor III and Billy Abbott.

Viewers can watch Jill’s triumphant return to Genoa City this fall as The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS and streams weeknights on Paramount+.
