Sony TV’s “S.W.A.T.” spinoff has set its series regular cast, Variety has learned exclusively.
Lucy Barrett (“Deep Water,” “Charmed”), Adain Bradley (“Warfare,” “Tarot”), Zyra Gorecki (“La Brea”), Freddy Miyares (“When They See Us”), and Ronen Rubinstein (“9-1-1: Lone Star”) are all set to star in “S.W.A.T. Exiles” alongside previously announced lead and original series star Shemar Moore. In addition, Kevin Tancharoen (“Mortal Kombat: Legacy,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,” “The Book of Boba Fett”) has come onboard to direct the first episode of the series.
News of the castings comes just one day after Sony announced that “S.W.A.T.” stars Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit would appear in the “Exiles” pilot as guest stars.
The official logline for the new series states:
“After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson (Moore) is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental SWAT unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is.”
Sony Pictures Television is producing the 10-episode series, which does not currently have a network or streaming home.
Barrett is repped by Active Artists Management and Stride Management. Bradley is repped by Waring McKenna and Range Media Partners. Gorecki is repped by Defining Artists. Miyares is repped by Range Media Partners and Glaser Weil Fink Howard Jordan & Shapiro LLP. Rubinstein is repped by Gersh, Management Production Entertainment and Lichter Grossman. Tancharoen is repped by CAA, Untitled, & Myman Greenspan.
Production is scheduled to begin later in September in Los Angeles and will utilize the same production crew that worked on the original show.
Jason Ning serves as showrunner and executive producer. Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film also executive produce along with Moore, James Scura, and Jon Cowan. Sony Pictures Television produces and distributes the series globally.
The reboot of “S.W.A.T” debuted on CBS in 2017. The broadcast network originally canceled the show after its sixth season, only to reverse course and announce it would be back for a seventh and final season. Then, the show earned an eighth season reprieve, only to be canceled once again in March.
