ABC’s Will Trent has just solved its latest mystery — when it’s returning to air. The crime-drama, which is based on Karin Slaughter’s bestselling books, closed out its third season in May 2025 with a huge twist — Angie (Erika Christensen) discovering she’s pregnant. But we’ve not got that much longer to wait, because as per the New York Times, Will Trent Season 4 will debut in January 2026. An exact premiere date has yet to be announced.
In the unpredictable world of network TV, Will Trent has is one of those rare stable series. All three of its seasons so far have premiered in January or February, and the fourth looks to follow suit. Season 4 began production in August 2025, and while story details remain tightly under wraps, ABC confirmed that Kevin Daniels, who plays Detective Franklin Wilks, will be promoted to series regular. That’s nice for him.
Is Will Trent Successful?
The show continues to be a strong performer for ABC, with an 83% Rotten Tomatoes audience score and steady ratings. Alongside Ramón Rodríguez as Will Trent and Christensen as Angie, the cast includes Iantha Richardson, Jake McLaughlin, and Sonja Sohn. The series follows Trent, a Georgia Bureau of Investigation special agent who grew up in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system and now uses his street smarts and unique vantage point to ensure no one else is abandoned like he was.
Things are also heating up across ABC’s new prime time line-up for the new season. Kaitlin Olson’s smash hit success High Potential returns on September 16, while Tim Allen’s Shifting Gears revs up its second season on October 1. Notably, Shifting Gears will only run 13 episodes (although that’s still more than its original 10 episode order), leaving an opening for ABC’s biggest swing of the season: the Scrubs revival.
Dubbed Scrubs Season 10, the new chapter of Bill Lawrence’s medical comedy is expected to slide into ABC’s mid-season schedule — likely joining Will Trent in January. The revival brings back fan favorites Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, and John C. McGinley, with the show reportedly targeting the Wednesday time slot currently held by Shifting Gears.
