After 6 Years, Leonard Marks His First TBBT Comeback Story md24

The Big Bang Theory is officially bringing Leonard back into the franchise after 6 years. Johnny Galecki was one of the only two characters who was already part of the sitcom during its infamous original The Big Bang Theory pilot, which was eventually reworked. Despite the changes, his and Sheldon’s friendship remained the foundation of the comedy’s subsequent 12-season run.

Aside from his dynamic with Sheldon, Leonard’s romance with Penny also played a big role in the success of the nerd-centric sitcom. Granted that their story was stagnated towards the end, not to mention their divisive fate in The Big Bang Theory finale, they were still, arguably, the show’s primary couple.

Despite Leonard’s prominence in The Big Bang Theory, however, he has been almost forgotten as the universe continues. That’s about to change, however, thanks to Stuart Fails To Save The Universe.

Leonard Factors Into Stuart’s The Big Bang Theory Spinoff

The last time there was ever any news about Leonard was during the final episode of The Big Bang Theory, as the Pasadena gang settled back into their California lives after Sheldon and Amy won the Nobel Prize. Penny’s controversial pregnancy twist effectively set him up for the life that he had always wanted, but no word on what happened next after that.

Because of the lack of update, a theory about Leonard being dead after the Young Sheldon finale floated around. The Big Bang Theory franchise has yet to directly address it, but after 6 years, Galecki’s beloved nerd will once again factor in the universe, as he’s a vital player in Stuart Fails to Save the Universe‘s premise.

Per the official brief of Chuck Lorre’s new series, “Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman) is tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard.” This confirms that Leonard is still alive at some point between the events of The Big Bang Theory and the Young Sheldon finale flashforward.

How Leonard’s Role In Stuart Fails To Save The Universe Is Better Than A Young Sheldon Cameo

A few The Big Bang Theory actors and characters made a guest involvement during Young Sheldon‘s 7-season run. Throughout that time, there was always hope that Leonard would make a voice cameo, similar to Howard and Amy. So when the Young Sheldon finale rolled in with not even a mention of the character, it was a massive let-down.

In hindsight, however, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe‘s role for Leonard is so much better than him becoming another supporting character in Sheldon’s story. While the jury is still out if Galecki will make an appearance to set up The Big Bang Theory spinoff, at the very least, his involvement is not dependent on his friendship, but his ability as a scientist.
