Jodi Thomas Celebrates Ransom Canyon Season 2 Renewal: “A Dream for West Texas Stories” md13

💫 “A Dream for West Texas Stories”: Ransom Canyon Renewed for Season 2 on Netflix 🌵

Editor’s note: This article contains spoilers from Season 1 of Ransom Canyon.

Get ready to head back to the rugged beauty of West Texas — Ransom Canyon is officially coming back for Season 2, Netflix confirmed on June 24. While the premiere date hasn’t been set and production hasn’t begun, fans can expect the sweeping romantic drama to return no earlier than 2026.

For Jodi Thomas, the fifth-generation Texan behind the beloved book series, the renewal is more than just exciting — it’s deeply personal.

“I love it! A part of me still doesn’t believe it,” Thomas said. “To think that something rooted in the canyons and ranches I know so well is now touching people across the world — it’s incredible.”

Ransom Canyon' Renewed For Season 2 By Netflix

Thomas, who has written over 50 novels and served as writer-in-residence at West Texas A&M University, draws heavily on her upbringing near the Caprock Canyons to tell grounded, emotionally rich stories of small-town life, family ties, and Texas grit. Her Ransom Canyon series now includes 11 books, with Season 1 adapting the first novel — but not without a few bold surprises.

Among the biggest shockers? The unexpected death of Cap Fuller (James Brolin), a twist that left fans stunned.

“I was surprised when Cap died in Season 1. I thought it might happen in Season 2,” Thomas admitted. “But the way they’ve kept the audience guessing — it’s exciting. And I think there’s going to be a lot happening between Staten and Quinn.”

Season 1 wrapped with several emotional cliffhangers: Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly) left for New York to save her late father’s dance hall, putting her relationship with Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel) on shaky ground. Meanwhile, Yancy Grey’s (Jack Schumacher) wedding plans with Ellie Estevez (Marianly Tejada) were rocked when a woman appeared, claiming to be his wife.

Despite being filmed primarily at Netflix Studios Albuquerque in New Mexico, the show has been praised for capturing the spirit of West Texas — even if not the exact geography.

“Even though they filmed it elsewhere, the spirit of West Texas comes through,” Thomas said. “You see those wide-open spaces, and you feel that connection to the land. I just hope we get to see even more of the horses, the cattle, the lifestyle that defines the Panhandle.”

With its mix of heart, heartbreak, and homegrown grit, Ransom Canyon made a strong global debut when it premiered on April 17, introducing audiences worldwide to a story inspired by real people and places.

“When I created Ransom Canyon, I wanted readers to feel the wind, see the wide sky, and know the kind of people who call this place home,” Thomas shared. “That’s what makes this story real — it’s full of grit, heart, and hope.”

Season 2 promises even more twists, deeper emotional arcs, and — if Thomas has her way — more horses.
