It was a great move to expand the universe by focusing on the origin story of its most popular character, Sheldon. Over the years, however, its ties to the nerd-centric sitcom became more of an issue instead of being advantageous. It limits what the prequel can do with its storytelling. In the end, the mothership show is even the reason why Young Sheldon has to end with just seven seasons despite still being very popular.
