Carrie Preston Brings Chaos to Late Night With Stephen Colbert in ‘Elsbeth’ Season 3 First Look md18

Carrie Preston’s delightfully eccentric Elsbeth Tascioni is back — and this time, she’s crashing late-night television. CBS has released the first trailer for Elsbeth Season 3, teasing a star-packed lineup that includes Stephen Colbert, David Cross, Julia Fox, and more. The trailer kicks off with Elsbeth, in a hot-pink plaid suit Cher Horowitz would envy, snoozing in the office of Scotty Bristol (Colbert), the fictional host of Way Late with Scotty Bristol. Waking to find herself surrounded by Scotty and his head writer Laurel (Amy Sedaris), she apologizes with her signature quirk: “Sorry, I am jet lagged, which is why I seem a little loopy — although, some people think I always seem a little loopy.”

From there, the hijinks escalate like stairs at the United Nations. One standout sequence shows Elsbeth channeling Big as she dances on a floor piano in a toy store, only for David Cross to appear brandishing a gun. “Get out or Raggedy Ann goes home in a body bag,” he snarls, pointing toward a petrified store employee in full doll costume. This is the kind of thing that only makes sense in Elsbeth. Other blink-and-you’ll-miss-them cameos include Andy Richter (who also plays Sedaris’ on-air sidekick husband), Annaleigh Ashford, and William Jackson Harper. Fans of The Good Fight will be thrilled to see Sarah Steele reprise her role as Marissa Gold, reconnecting with Preston’s character in her new adventures and giving us another bridge to the world from which Elsbeth came to us.

What Can We Expect From ‘Elsbeth’ Season 3?

The season premiere, titled “Yes, And…,” finds Elsbeth diving headfirst into the world of late-night television when tensions flare between Colbert’s host, Sedaris’ head writer, and Richter’s bumbling on-air partner. Meanwhile, with Carra Patterson’s Kaya Blanke appearing less this season, Elsbeth will have to try and create a new bond with an aspiring stand-up comic turned police officer, played by Lindsay Mendez. The trailer closes with Wendell Pierce’s Captain Wagner asking the question fans already know the answer to: “You aren’t done, are you?” Elsbeth, of course, just shrugs and walks away.

Elsbeth Season 3 premieres Sunday, Oct. 12 at 9:30 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT on CBS before moving to its regular Thursday slot on Oct. 16 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
