The NCIS universe expanded with the addition of NCIS: Origins to the CBS Fall 2024-2025 schedule, which is an origins story set in 1991 of not just Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) but also his NCIS mentor and friend Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).
The good news came from CBS that it has given the greenlight to continue telling those stories in a second season and the cases that the two men handle out of the Camp Pendleton (California) NIS office this coming fall 2025-2026.
“We are so happy that NCIS: Origins has been so well received by both longtime NCIS fans and franchise newcomers,” co-showrunners Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North told Parade. “We’re thrilled to be returning for a second season and can’t wait to tell more incredible stories of Gibbs, Franks, Lala, and the rest of the team with the superbly talented actors who play them.”

Who will guest star as Mike Franks brother Mason on Season 2 of NCIS: Origins?
Early on in NCIS: Origins, we saw that Mike Franks and his brother Mason were close when they were younger. In fact, when Mike got drafted but decided to enlist in the Marines instead, his big brother went with him. But then the two had a falling out and hadn’t spoken in years — until the Season 1 finale.
“Franks obviously has a bit of a tumultuous relationship with his brother Mason, and we’ll pick that up where we left off in the finale, where they’re still struggling to reconnect,” co-showrunner David J. North told TVLine. “Early on in the season, we will see that materialize.”
Mike’s older brother is described as “a Texas-tough cowboy who has recently hit rock bottom. Mason is an honorable man who has fallen on hard times and is desperately trying to keep from losing the family ranch. His desperation leads him to seek help from his estranged little brother.”
