Indeed, Best Medicine going into production in upstate New York makes it extremely difficult for Potts to reprise her role as Meemaw in First Marriage, which is filmed in California and follows Best Medicine’s same network TV-induced time constraints.

Meemaw’s role in season 1’s story warrants a similar, if not bigger, presence for Connie in First Marriage season 2. Between her unrepentant attitude toward her sportsbook business and Mandy’s fascination with her, Meemaw would need to take center stage in several storylines. This seems entirely unlikely following Potts’ casting in Best Medicine.

Even if Potts’ absence were to be a problem only for First Marriage season 2, featuring Meemaw down the line in a way and manner that could potentially explain Connie’s central Big Bang Theory mystery seems impossible. First Marriage season 1 re-established Connie’s recklessness through her sportsbook business, after her arrest in Young Sheldon had interrupted her illegal enterprises.

First Marriage putting Connie on a path of crime pulls her away from the version of Meemaw that Big Bang Theory presented, one that was stern and unrelenting, albeit with an unexpected sense of humor. This makes a potential explanation of Meemaw’s change into her TBBT version require her bigger presence in a show still centering on Georgie and Mandy.

Such an explanation was possible through First Marriage bridging the gap between the Young Sheldon years and the little audiences got to see of Sheldon’s family in TBBT. However, Meemaw’s presence being virtually nonexistent in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage makes it more difficult to amp it up even in the future, leaving her Big Bang Theory mystery effectively unsolvable.
