All of the characters in Netflix’s Western drama series Ransom Canyon connect in various ways, through blood, romance, and everything in between. Ransom Canyon’s ensemble cast paired with its multilayered, interweaving story makes it hard sometimes to keep up with every twist and turn, especially that unbelievable Yancy twist at the end of Ransom Canyon. Because Ransom Canyon is such a small town, which is loosely inspired by the real town of the same name outside Lubbock, Texas, just about everyone is in everybody else’s business, and word travels fast.
While Staten and Quinn, played by Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, are technically the series leads in Ransom Canyon, just about every character gets a fair share of screen time and is directly involved in one or more of the various storylines. From various “will they, won’t they” relationship dynamics, college athletics dreams, land disputes, rodeo competitions, and even a murder mystery, Ransom Canyon has a lot to offer and is already being compared to Yellowstone. If Netflix does pick it up for season 2, it will have a solid foundation and plenty of drama to work with.
Staten Kirkland Is A Widower Whose Son Randall Died In A Car Crash
Staten Is A Wealthy Ranch Owner With Deep Family History in Ransom Canyon
Staten Kirkland is the main character in Ransom Canyon who has a strong yet troublesome reputation around town. He’s been given a lot of passes since his wife died of an illness three years before the series takes place and his son, Randall, died in a tragic car crash. At least Staten is a wealthy ranch owner whose Kirkland name carries a lot of respect in the town. That is, when he’s not striking up bar fights or drinking past his limit.
Staten is the brother-in-law of Davis Collins. After his sister died, Davis tried to look after Randall in his own way but often crossed the line with Staten, such as when he gave him the sports car for his birthday, which he would ultimately die in. Staten is also Reid’s uncle, which makes his hookup with Davis’s ex-wife, Paula Jo, kind of strange. Although he gives Lucas a job as a ranch hand, he’s not related to him. Staten’s father, Samuel, is a senator from Texas.
Quinn O’Grady Is Staten’s “Girl Who Got Away” & His Ex-Wife’s Best Friend
Quinn Is A Talented Concert Pianist & Owner Of The Dance Hall
Apart from being both Staten and Davis’s love interest in Ransom Canyon, Quinn is a dance hall owner and a concert pianist. She returns to Ransom Canyon, where her heart truly is, after a stint in New York, but gets another offer to play for the New You Philharmonic later in the season. Quinn is Staten’s “girl who got away” and was his former wife’s best friend before her death. Quinn is also the aunt of Nick, Reid’s friend, who fell through the floor of the abandoned house and broke his leg. Nick’s mom is Angie, Quinn’s sister.
Davis Collins Is The Brother Of Staten’s Ex-Wife, Reid’s Father & Randall’s Uncle
Davis Switches From Good To Bad Depending On The Conversation
Davis is Staten’s brother-in-law, Randall’s uncle, Reid’s father, Paula Jo’s ex-husband, and Quinn’s boyfriend before he became her ex-boyfriend. Staten says Davis is a wannabe rancher and works in the interest of Austin Water & Power, trying to get Staten to sell his land to fill his wife Paula Jo’s pockets, who’s on the board at AW&P. Davis also wants to acquire Cap Fuller’s ranch, which is why he helps Yancy Grey get out of prison so that Yancy can convince him to sell. Davis and Yancy are not related but they colluded to manipulate Cap into selling his land.
