This is far more damaging to her parenting record, because Mary genuinely doesn’t see her daughter’s plight.

As heartbreaking as this is, it also perfectly explains the tense dynamic between Mary and Missy in The Big Bang Theory. While it wasn’t a full-blown feud, as they could still be in each other’s presence, their conversations were often laced with passive-aggressiveness — as if they just learned to tolerate each other.
